California Following in the Footsteps of New York on Gun Control (VIDEO)

Despite already having some of the toughest gun laws in the nation, California is marching toward sweeping gun control reform in the wake of the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT.

On Tuesday, Democrats in a state Senate committee capitalized off their super majority to advance a package of seven gun control proposals, including one that would ban so-called ‘assault’ weapons, semiautomatic rifles that accept detachable magazines, and another that would retroactively ban magazines that hold more than 10 rounds of ammo.

At the committee hearing, Los Angles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa spoke out in favor of the measures, which would ultimately make life more difficult for law-abiding gun owners.

“Some will say we’re overreacting to recent tragedies — they are wrong,” Villaraigosa told the committee. “We can’t wait for the next shooting at a day- care center, nor can we wait for the next shooting at an elementary school like Newtown.”

According to the Associated Press, the other proposals on the table would:

_ Make it more difficult to rapidly reload weapons with high-capacity magazines.

_ Add a combination shotgun-rifle to the state’s list of prohibited weapons.

_ Require background checks for all gun owners.

_ Require ammunition buyers to undergo a background check and get a permit.

_ Require more training for gun buyers.

_ And add new crimes to those that disqualify California residents from owning weapons.

By the time the dust settles, California will join the ranks of NY, CO, CT, and MD, becoming just another brick in the wall. Unfortunately.

I hate to be pessimistic, but most of these will sail easily through the Democrat-controlled house and senate and be signed into law by our Democrat governor, Jerry Brown. We’ll then have to fight them in the courts, which so far have not been all that friendly to the 2A, Heller and McDonald be damned.

I have a theory on California. The massive immigration of legal and illegal immigrants from Mexico, a country that prohibits gun ownership, has made it easier for Democrats to disarm the people. Without a cultural background of gun ownership and with a desire to fit in with the general populace, these immigrants are easily led by politicians and actors who have exposure. If we had a true educational system, there might be hope for the future of California. However, I look for California to be one of the first states to self destruct.

He means "we can't wait the next tragedy, because then we can exploit it."

I think the state supreme court has already over turned a restriction similar to the ammo issue. The scary part is adding more crimes to those that prevent a person from owning a firearm. Pretty soon a speeding ticket will preven firearm ownership. Don’t the feds run that system anyway, how can the state add to it?

Looks like there might be a good business opportunity for a freeper in a border state to provide a location to store our weapons.

By making everyone ineligible to own a gun, like Mexico has basically done, it makes for a very black-and-white situation for police if they see someone with a gun. You have a gun? You're a criminal and I can shoot you.

The unintended consequences have been that the drug cartels, already criminals, are some of the most heavily-armed criminals on earth. Why not have grenades and RPGs? You're already an automatic criminal. And we see how peaceful Mexico is with these sort of laws.

Following NY will prevent citizens from arming themselves with arms equal to whatever the government would use against them. Doing so renders the 2nd Amendment moot and any future argument is mental masturbation.

If the 2nd Amendment was to insure you had enough fire power to kill a deer then these arguments would have validity.

The haters of the Constitution starting from that rotting head in the White House have to rely on the ignorance of the low/no information voter and all the good work done by the public school system.

Want to fix it? If you don’t do one of the first 3 nothing can possibly be fixed.

1) Home school if you have the time (kids or grand kids)

2) Private school if you have the money

3) Worse case find a Charter school more aligned with the brilliance of the Founders.

4) Shut up and stop your bitching because you are giving the most impressionable minds to the government and expecting some sort of miracle and hoping a Conservative mind will emerge. How has that been working for you for the last half century?

We will lose every “Creator given”, and constitutionally reaffirmed right if we do not do 1,2, or 3 above. There is no getting around it yet seems there is no getting this through our collective minds.
