Marathon terror investigators may release video to public
Bostonherald.com ^ | 4/18/13 | John Zaremba

..The lead investigators of the Boston Marathon terror attack are at federal offices right now to meet and discuss whether to release a surveillance video to the public for help in identifying people in the video, an official said.

No decision has been made yet on whether to release it, said Christina DiIorio-Sterling of the U.S. Attorney’s office..

She cautioned against speculation about possible suspects and packages in images of the Marathon crowds. Today, the New York Post printed photos of two men — widely circulated on the Internet — that the paper said have been e-mailed to law enforcement.

“Unless someone from the media is in possession of a photo from the FBI, they should consider it not credible,” DiIorio-Sterling said.

They don’t have a clue. They will never catch who did it.

It would be interesting to see a breakdown of the time wasted ‘training’ on PC nonsense like avoiding racial profiling, sexual harassment, a gay-friendly workplace, etc.

J. Edgar Hoover would hang his head in shame at the state of federal law enforcement, who are big on paramilitary gear, hi-viz vests, press conferences and so forth but who seem to lack any sort of personal or collective initiative - i.e. proper detective skills - in narrowing a search quickly. They do love their press conferences and fifty-cent words, though.

When they have a case to build, they are mum. As you say, their embarrassing public pleas for help are a tacit admission that despite loads of evidence dropped into their laps via the modern fetish for video recording anything and everything, they are throwing their hands up less than a week after the incident.

Isn’t the identity obvious? A life member of the NRA who attended a Tea Party meeting and then dropped off the black bag when he was on his way to picket a womyn’s reproductive health clinic. His name is Marinus van der Lubbe, and he will kill himself as the police close in on him.

There are loads of videos and photos of the event, so much that the police can't control the release of it. But instead of using this to their advantage, they seem to be trying to control this information.

It would be better to stay out front of it. With as much stuff out there, they should be having press conferences every two hours. Instead, they can barely come up with a coherent public statement.

Just saw Napolitano address congress and say they wanted the public to help identify the suspects. With no description or pictures just how do we go about doing that?

10 or 15 years ago I stopped a white woman from trying to drag a little black kid into a van and called police. The woman called me a racist and the black cop said I would be stupid to not notice race.

Turned out that the kid was mentally retarded and the white woman was a foster parent who just happened to be a liberal idiot.

Because they did allow the Bin Laden family to leave.

Why doesn't the FBI officially release the photos of the suspect(s)? That way 300 million Americans could help look for or identify them. This appears to be gross incompetence. Post 911, I thought the FBI was supposed to “share” information.

The New York Post has an interesting article, complete with some rather interesting photos.

Because it may not be the guys. How would you feel if they released your picture?
Someone posted that they have found the two guys and have released them.

Reddit says that, but Reddit will not give their names etc because of privacy. I don’t know what to think, but NY Post released the photos that they said LE gave them. Of course, NYP also said 12 people died in the blasts.

I think this story has been debunked. Take a look at some of the earlier threads.

. . . but NY Post released the photos that they said LE gave them.

No, the New York Post printed the photos they said that the newspaper had obtained from an email (which they described as one circulating among law enforcement types) that was sent to them. As to who, exactly, sent the email (and photos) to the Post, the newspaper story doesn't say.

But note that the Post story never does say anything along the lines of: "Law enforcement authorities sent us these pictures and told us that these are the guys they're looking for."

My guess it that the Post has cocked it up, blithely running a "too-good-to-check" story this morning that had already been overtaken by events.

Thanks for the correction. (I got it from Drudge, btw, and the link has since been removed from that site.)

Yesterday we heard the FBI investigators were showing around an image and questioning people. I heard at least two reports say they had seen the images, but WOULD NOT describe them. Which begs the question, if the FBI didn’t want the images widely distributed, for whatever reason, why the hell would they be showing the images to reporters...? These reporters weren’t at the event. They are the last person you’d show if you truly didn’t want the pictures to spread. I don’t understand any of this.

This makes me wonder two things....

1.). Were the pictures leaked and then the media was asked not to publish them? If the pictures were leaked, was it done to subvert an ongoing coverup?

2.). More ominously, do they anticipate a possible second strike locally and want the reporters and their crews to know these faces.

News reports that something “may” happen are useless, because they also may “not” happen.
