MAKHACHKALA, Russia (AP) -- The father of the suspects in the Boston Marathon bombing claims that his son who is still on the loose is a smart and accomplished young man.
Anzor Tsarnaev spoke with The Associated Press by telephone from the Russian city of Makhachkala on Friday after police said one of his sons, 26-year-old Tamerlan, had been killed in a shootout and the other, Dzhokhar, was being intensely pursued.
"My son is a true angel," the elder Tsarnaev said. "Dzhokhar is a second-year medical student in the U.S. He is such an intelligent boy. We expected him to come on holidays here."

Dad, you can now expect him to soon be dead or headed for life in prison without parole. But who knows, perhaps Hussein will show him leniency.

With the little info in this article, I tend to cut the father some slack.
From what I’ve read elsewhere, his son’s been here 5 or 6 years. That kind of time in a foreign country can change a person, especially one in their 20s.
He may have been a good kid when he left, and been radicalized once he got here.
Not unlikely he came here not speaking the language and with few contacts. He would have been an easy target to convert.
Wouldn’t be the first father who’s child went off to college and ended up radically different.
