Boy Scouts Proposing to Lift Gay Ban for Youth

Under pressure over its longstanding ban on gays, the Boys Scouts of America is proposing to lift the ban for youth members but continue to exclude gays as adult leaders.

The Scouts announced Friday that it would submit this proposal to the roughly 1,400 voting members of its National Council at a meeting in Texas the week of May 20.

Earlier, the BSA had indicated it might give local Scout units the option of admitting gays as both youth members and adult leaders, or continuing to exclude them

The BSA said Friday it changed course due in part to results of surveys sent out this year to members of the scouting community.

The Boy Scouts of America will break up just like the mainstream Protestant denominations did decades ago. The conservative troops and councils will shun those that accept homosexuals as members and leaders. The Mormons and Catholics will withdraw their support of the national organization. Parallel church youth groups like AWANAs will expand their activities and become more like the Boy Scouts.

Notice how the Boy Scouts are changing policy based on cultural trends rather than remaining unchanged based on absolute moral principles (which don’t change). This is a sell out to liberalism and relativism.

Forget that first step down a slippery slope. I make it a point to donate to the Salvage Army and the Boy Scouts. If the Boy Scouts are serious about encouraging me to give their share to the Salvation Army, I'll oblige them.

If the Scouts vote to allow gays, the impact to Boy Scouts will be much larger. Parents care a LOT more about what their kids are exposed to, than the agenda of organizations where they buy clothes.

There is already American Heritage Girls that competes against the liberal Girl Scout organization. They started in 1995 with 100 members and had 20,000 as of 2012.

If the Boy Scouts vote for allowing gays, then we will quickly see an alternate organization to the Boy Scouts form.

Many of the Boy Scout tribes are sponsored by religious groups. And if the right leaders step forward, and organize entire denominations’ exodus from the Scouts, the Scouts will be decimated.

We have Christian friends whose son has told them he’s gay. I advised them to ask their son to just wait on acting on his feelings.

I just think there is a big difference between a 17 year old and a 25 year old.

If kids can just focus on growing up and getting a job first, maybe they can figure things out as an a mature adult.

Young pre-pubescent boys (and girls) are naturally inclined to have ‘clubs’ and to ‘belong’ without the opposite sex intruding on their stuff.

The Boy Scouts provided such an outlet with the benefit of a moral code and constructive activities. Why these outstanding institutions have to accommodate sexual sophistry is beyond me. Sexuality of any kind has no place in these groups. We were too busy tying knots, making camp fires and assembling tents.

It is idiomatic that homosexuality is an act, not an attitude. If their son considers himself queer he has been experimenting. That much is obvious.
For the boy scouts to allow practicing homosexuals into their membership they must also allow open sexuality for all of their members. Is this what they are about?

I went to a small church for many years. I liked it when my kids were little, but when my kids got older i thought the youth groups didn’t equip the kids for living in the world.

Well, several of the kids are gay. In fact about 1/3 of that age group.. They are the ones that went to public school. We switched churches, and my kids go to a Christian school.
