The Gun Rights Consensus
THe Wall Street Journal ^ | 18 April, 2013 | NA

But under Senate rules, a simple majority vote would have opened the measure to up to 30 hours of debate, which would have meant inspecting the details. The White House demanded, and Mr. Reid agreed, that Congress should try to pass the amendment without such a debate.

Majority rules would have also opened the bill to pro-gun amendments that were likely to pass. That would have boxed Mr. Reid into the embarrassing spectacle of having to later scotch a final bill because it also contained provisions that the White House loathes. So Mr. Reid moved under "unanimous consent" to allow nine amendments, each with a 60-vote threshold.

------------------------cut------------------------------

In other words, keeping guns away from dangerous or unstable people was less important than defeating the NRA. The Senate GOP offered an alternative background-checks amendment that failed 52-48. Nine Democrats were in favor, but their colleagues voted en masse to block it from moving forward. How's that for incoherent?

Mr. Obama is technically right that Manchin-Toomey would not create a federal firearms registry. Then again, its most clamorous supporters are also contemptuous of the Second Amendment, and they are explicitly hoping for a fifth Justice to overturn the Supreme Court's landmark gun-rights rulings. Manchin-Toomey opponents can be forgiven for worrying that gun controllers will attempt to build a registry from whatever records they get.

Drama in the Rose Garden: Defying Senate, Obama Vows to Win on Gun Control

Posted on April 19, 2013

On Wednesday, the Senate rejected a gun control agenda that President Obama has adopted as his own over the last few months, but to which other gun control supporters have bitterly clung for years: banning an ever-lengthening list of semi-automatic firearms, banning magazines that hold more than 10 rounds, and expanding background check requirements to require government permission for many transfers of firearms among private citizens.

Within minutes of the Senate’s votes, which one political commentator called the “biggest loss” of Obama’s presidency, our Thespian-in-Chief theatrically stood beside a prominent crime victim and several family members of other victims in the Rose Garden, beginning his comments in a somber tone, so that the anger to which he would dramatically build over the next 13 minutes would, in contrast, appear more sincere...

The left made their intentions pretty well known-they were coming after guns and they were coming after gun owners. If we had lost this pissing contest, they would have been emboldened by our weakness and would have increased the tempo of their assaults against us. They would have made our lives hell more so than they already do. We had to win this contest and we did and it was sweet. FUBO.

Student reportedly arrested, suspended after argument with teacher over NRA shirt

Published April 21, 2013

FoxNews.com

An eighth-grade student in West Virginia was reportedly arrested and suspended last week after getting into an argument with his teacher about a National Rifle Association T-shirt he wore to school.

WOWK-TV reports that Jared Marcum faces charges of obstruction and disturbing the education process for refusing to change the shirt, which shows a rifle and the slogan, “protect your right.”

Jared told the station the he was punished by officials at Logan Middle School after arguing about the shirt with his teacher, who reportedly objected to the image of the gun on the shirt.

“What they’re doing is trying to take away my rights, my freedom of speech and my Second Amendment,” Jared told the station.

Jared’s father, Allen Lardieri, told WOWK-TV he is upset his son was briefly jailed for something he believes was blown out of proportion.

No, Walter is more intelligent. Please stop insulting Walter by implying that there is a family connection between him and the Vice President.

“People who cling to their guns, or merely to the Constitution, aren’t part of the coalition that Mr. Obama believes re-elected him...”

I do know one person who was...voted for him in 2012 STRICTLY due to abortion. She’s from the Chicago area. A month after the election (after the shooting) she ran to a gun shop as quickly as possible and bought an AR and 3 other pieces. Then got her concealed.

Gun owners are not all the hicks that many of us might think...they come in all shapes and sizes and backgrounds.

Obama, Bloomberg and the Brady crew could well be killing the coalition that helped the rats take over Congress in 2006 by resuming their old rat penchant for gun control.
