WATERTOWN, MA -- On Friday, April 19, 2013, during a manhunt for a bombing suspect, police and federal agents spent the day storming people's homes and performing illegal searches. While it was unclear initially if the home searches were voluntary, it is now crystal clear that they were absolutely NOT voluntary. Police were filmed ripping people from their homes at gunpoint, marching the residents out with their hands raised in submission, and then storming the homes to perform their illegal searches.

This was part of a larger operation that involved total lockdown of the suburban neighbor to Boston. Roads were barricaded and vehicle traffic was prohibited. A No-Fly Zone was declared over the town. People were "ordered" to stay indoors. Businesses were told not to open. National Guard soldiers helped with the lockdown, and were photographed checking IDs of pedestrians on the streets. All the while, police were performing these disgusting house-to-house searches.

Hey John,The people of Watertown let them in and were glad to see them.They were being terrorized.The man was not old and we got lucky.Everybody was happy for them and had reason to celebrate.
never open your door to the police, if you haven’t noticed, they will stick their foot in the door. Make them show you a warrant
I saw a post on Twitter this morning from a woman who claimed to live in Watertown, Mass.
She said SWAT guys knocked on her door Friday and they asked her if she wanted her house searched. She said no, and they left.
I can’t verify her post on Twitter.....I don’t know the woman....but I’m just throwing it out there.

Watching that Watertown video... I wonder what would have happened if the homeowner said to the police, no you can’t come in without a warrant.

Yep. That works. You also don’t need a warrant under what is called “exigent circumstances” exception, shorthand for a fast moving emergency where there’s no time to get a warrant based on probable cause. Example would be you’re a cop and you just saw an armed criminal enter a house with small children looking out the window. The law, for a very long time, has permitted warrantless searches under such conditions. Can the exception be abused? yes, and it has been, and might have been here, depending on specific situations. But chalking this up to wholesale rejection of the Fourth is not realistic. Nothing defines “exigent circumstance” better than a bomb throwing terrorist running around in a residential neighborhood.
The only way to rid this country of Muslims WILL be house to house. Phonebooks/city directories will help. Muslim names=search. It`s going to come down to mark your doors with a Cross or Star of David or other non Muslim symbol and stay inside till the noise is over. I`m all for that. This is ludicrous in light of them ignoring OBVIOUS targets and taking such time and care with the last bomber. Reminded me of the endless OJ chase...everyone so concerned not to act in haste re. A murderer.
Do what the Israelis do...flatten their homes. Then put the family on a plane to the Middle East. Landing not necessary...just heave them out. Nothing less is going to work.

Of course you’re going to say you’re fine and not let the Police in if you’re hiding a terrorist. Or if one is hiding in your attic and you don’t even know about it.

Guns or no guns. If they are looking for me that’s another matter. If they want to perform a search a warrant is required and it had better meet the criterion. I defend my castle against all bomb throwing terrorists and other assorted evildoers running around my neighborhood. Including unreasonable badge-heavy enforcers of the law who threaten me with harm and present the means of doing so.
(Opens door) “Good (Whatever time) officer. Would you like a cup of coffee? (Q) No. I haven’t seen any bomb throwing terrorists. Do I look like the man you’re looking for? No? (Q) A search. Why whatever for? Do you have a warrant to do so at this residence? Well then, no, you may not. The coffee offer is good anytime by the way. Good day sir. (Closes door)

Applies to hot pursuit only. Once they lost the suspect they have failed. They could set up roadblocks around the area and inspect cars for the suspect. There's no exigent circumstance that allows a sweep of multiple houses. There have been cases upheld where police "gut feel" justified searches of a specific house.
Not only does this violate the homeowners rights, but it is a great way to have evidence against the suspect thrown out by a court because it was gathered during an illegal sweep.
From a legal standpoint, that doesn't justify illegal searches. From a tactical standpoint it is quite stupid to send troopers into each house which could explode with them, the occupants and the terrorist.
Stripping everyone in the neighborhood would work even better. It doesn't matter what "works" or what doesn't, only the legal pursuit of the perp. Once they lost him and had no idea where he went, all their forced searches were illegal.
The most effective thing they did was end the “lockdown” idiocy. He was found within minutes by a citizen.
Ironically ending the lockdown probably saved the terrorist’s life.

Apparently it allows people to look outside without a SWAT team threaten to shoot you. It allows you to go the store to buy milk for your children, allows you to go to the pharmacy for your medicine without a strip search, allows you to look at the boat in the backyard, and allows you to find the bad guy the 9,000 cops couldn’t find all week
