Sowell: Immigration Gambles
Creators Syndicate ^ | April 23, 2013 | Thomas Sowell

Posted on 04/23/2013 9:37:34 AM PDT by jazusamo

Britain's late Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher said it all when she wrote that the world has "never ceased to be dangerous," but the West has "ceased to be vigilant."

Nothing better illustrates her point than the fact that the West has imported vast numbers of people who hate our guts and would love to slit our throats. Political correctness has replaced self-preservation. The Boston Marathon killer who set a bomb down right next to an eight-year-old child is only the latest in an on-going series of such people.

Senator Patrick Leahy has warned us not to use the Boston Marathon terrorists as an argument against the immigration legislation he advocates. But if we are not to base our laws on facts about realities, what are we to base them on? Fashionable theories and pious rhetoric?

While we cannot condemn all members of any group for what other members of their group have done, that does not mean that we must ignore the fact that the costs and dangers created by some groups are much greater than those created by other groups.

Most members of most groups may be basically decent people. But if 85 percent of group A are decent and 95 percent of group B are decent, this means that there is three times as large a proportion of undesirable people in group A as in group B. Should we willfully ignore that when considering immigration laws?

It is already known that a significant percentage of the immigrants from some countries go on welfare, while practically none from some other countries do. Some children from some countries are eager students in school and, even when they come here knowing little or no English, they go on to master the language better than many native-born Americans.

This country’s worship of that stupid word “diversity” will be its death.

Dr. Sowell nails it again. Political correctness is destroying our country. The immigrant enclaves that exist
everywhere and refuse to melt into American culture and values are leading to our Balkanization.

Once we are thoroughly divided, the leftists, marxists, statists, and communists will seek to conquer.

The schools, K through grad school... Need I say more?

Dr. Sowell and you said it well, TOL.

Our country cannot survive as we knew it from our youth when immigrants refuse to assimilate and it seems millions are refusing to do so.

Sorry folks, but 30 years in So.Cal taught me that another amnesty will finish us off. If the average American knew how DISASTEROUS another amnesty would be, the guillotine, and French Revolution 2 would begin. Sowell on the mark, as he always is.

You’re correct, sjb. Was born, raised, worked and retired in So CA, it progressively got worse and worse. We got out and have not regretted it.

Gambles, those idiots in the GOp are gambling that Hispanics will vote for them just becuse they make illegals into US citizens, a lottery ticket has better odds and cheaper too.

That is just demand #1.

That’s exactly what they’re doing and they’re pathetic.

Dr. Sowell offers common sense in the face of the crack-pots caught up in the "Diversity" Cult, which serves no purpose but that of those who seek to undermine the continuity of our traditional culture.

At stake in this debate is the future of America down through the generations. The reality is that people create their culture, not culture people; changing the population changes the culture.

There are two very bad intentions involved in the demand for ever more "liberal" immigration laws. There are those who want to move American domestic policies ever further to the Left, and seek more immigrants who will vote their way; and there are those who seek to undermine the continuity of & sense of identity with traditional American culture, in order to undermine our resistance to being euchred into some form of world Government.

The World Government betrayal is not readily understood, but it should be. It is not even some form of conspiracy. It has been openly discussed in Academia for two generations. (See Surrender By Subterfuge.) I have been personally fighting it for 60 years!

I remember when Bush and Mccain tried this amnesty path in 2007 and minorities I talked to gave them ZERO credit for it. They believed that Republicans just wanted it to give big business a better deal on labor(seeing them as slave/cheap labor) , and those ones today will believe that too even with giving them citizenship. They will credit Dems for that no matter what.

the GOP will not be able to out-Santa Dems.

I don’t buy into this. The GOP elite are not that stupid, or obtuse. They may be STATING this in public, but it is, in reality, the “cheap labor” country club millionaire, Chamber of Commerce types who are pushing amnesty, and they have spent millions buying off Republican members in the House & Senate to do their bidding. I have seen the sellout first hand.

I agree that is a big motivator for them $$$$, and whats more thats the way Hispanics see it too, and blacks, and...its too obvious

so they will get very few if any votes for this.

...and by giving illegals US citizenship they are likely to lose many votes.
