I’m sure his margins for error were very, very narrow.

I didn’t even know they could go that high until I checked.

India’s new Dhruv helicopter is capable of ferrying troops and supplies up to Siachen, and it’s domestically-developed. China’s got more mature aircraft development capabilities, so high-altitude stuff is probably more within their reach. In any case, most of the Leh/Ladakh area is well within the ceiling of most military helicopters, though they’d have to fly between peaks to get in there.

Yes there’s LOC and then there’s LAC:

The Line of Actual Control (LAC)(also known as the MacCartney-MacDonald Line) is the effective border between India and People’s Republic of China (PRC). The LAC is 4,057-km long and traverses three areas of northern Indian states: western (Ladakh, Kashmir), middle (Uttarakhand, Himachal) and eastern (Sikkim, Arunachal).[1] Chinese Prime Minister Zhou Enlai first used the phrase in a letter addressed to Indian Prime Minister Nehru dated 24 October 1959.

Since long before Tibet, the Chinese have demonstrated they consider occupation tantamount to ownership.

Good luck, India.
