MILLER: Collateral damage of Senate gun votes; liberals emboldened, Bloomberg targets moderates
The Washington Times ^ | 23 April, 2013 | Emily Miller

Gun owners who cheered when the Senate failed to pass numerous anti-gun bills last week should temper their enthusiasm. The liberal wing of the Democratic party, led by President Obama and funded by New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg, has already started to use the votes to oust pro-Second Amendment senators in 2014.

After voting on a series of amendments, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid pulled the entire bill from the floor Thursday when it became clear that it could never get the 60 votes to pass. Sources say the White House forced the Nevada Democrat to put the bill on the floor, either out of the mistaken belief that it had 62 votes for background checks of private firearms transfers or that it wanted to get pro-gun Republicans on the record.

Bloomberg shoots first

After Mr. Reid cancelled the vote, Mr. Bloomberg fumed and indicated the type of attack ads he would be funding leading up to the 2014 election. “This is just an up and down vote. Condone murder or don’t. It’s not any more complex than that,” he said.

By the weekend, his group Mayors Against Illegal Guns had organized protests with the theme “Shame On You” at the congressional offices of the senators it has now determined vulnerable for voting against the expanded background checks amendment written by Sen. Joe Manchin, West Virginia Democrat and Sen. Pat Toomey, Pennsylvania Republican.

The anti-gun group protest went after only one Democrat, Sen. Max Baucus of Montana, who announced Tuesday that he will not seek reelection in 2014. The Republican targets were Sens. Richard Burr of North Carolina, Saxby Chambliss of Georgia, Dan Coats of Indiana, Jeff Flake of Arizona, Dean Heller of Nevada, Johnny Isakson of Georgia and Rob Portman of Ohio.

“The liberal wing of the Democratic party, led by President Obama and funded by New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg, has already started to use the votes to oust pro-Second Amendment senators in 2014.”

I’ll believe they have the electoral clout for THAT when I see it.

Indeed, I’d be VERY surprised if it didn’t go the other way, as it most certainly does usually; i.e., the anti-firearms senators get handed their walking papers.

hussein’s a lame duck who hasn’t had a single meaningful victory in congress since health care, and he’s a certifiable psychopath; Bloomberg, meanwhile, is not far behind him in mental... uh... ‘irregularity’ who has yet to learn that the Second Amendment isn’t about drinking a slightly larger soda pop.

Pass the immigration bill and they’ll have the electoral clout.

Virginia Senator Kaine is Bloomberg’s puppy. We need to make a sign stating that and make him wear it when his time is up in five years. Kaine probably thinks we will forget and he will skate through in an off-year election.

“This is just an up and down vote. Condone murder or don’t. It’s not any more complex than that,”. You’re right Mayor Bloomturd. It’s not complex at all. Murder is against the law already. Get a clue shorty and save your screed for the morons who elected you.

Pass the immigration bill and it’ll be a surprise if they ever lose an election again.

We here in GA appreciate the help in throwing Chambliss overboard. We will endeavor to do much better with his replacement in 2014.

So Bloomberg plans to go after popular Republican Senators from conservative states that voted to support gun rights...after going after table salt and sodas.

Something tells me that the Dems will try to stop him. They may be able to defeat some Republicans from conservative states, but they know FULL WELL that they won’t win by pushing gun control.

let the WH circular firing squad take out the “moderates”, they are much harder to defeat than hard core lefties and just as damaging to our nation after they are elected

they are merely partisan hacks who campaign like republicans to get elected and then vote like democrats

If by 2014 voters like the direction obama is taking us then let them elect people who are honest about their statist/globalist goals

I guess Bloomie and the other libs haven’t read poll data showing Americans’ support for gun control fading. But, if they want to blow all that money, hey.. it’s theirs to blow.

Many of the RINOs who voted for the Gun Control bills will be primaried out.

The Dems who voted against the Gun Control bills will be a good opportunity for the GOP to pick up a seat.

Many Dems (in name only) in the South & West are hunters and gun owners and will vote against anyone who want to compromise the 2nd Amendment. This is not a party specific issue.

Ask yourself why the ComDems are working so hard to take away the 2nd Amendment? It is because they don’t want for the citizens to be able to resist what they plan in the future.

They can go to Hell, and I already live in Texas.

Why target Chambliss? He announced he was not running for re-election months ago. Bless their little hearts, they just don’t seem very bright.

Principles MUST defeat Dollars!

If conservatives don’t figure out how to deliver sharp, clear messages, we will never win.

This means standing solidly on conservative values and not watering them down, in hopes of swaying the squishy middle.
