Make a kid work because his parents don’t have money or are too lazy to work?

Let the kid grow up thinking there’s such thing as a free lunch, so he’ll be just like his too lazy to work parent(s)?

Sounds good to me and I would include parents.

Amen. In fact, for the younger kids, I'd just make the parents do it. There's always something they can do, even if it is just cleaning blackboards. (Oops! Was that racist?)

Yep, good old Scrooge. He wanted the government to take care of the poor instead of working with charities to help them

I agree... but the problem they seem to keep running into with this argument is that the public employee unions will be undermined/reduced if their member employees are needed in lower numbers due to volunteers doing their work. So, the taxpayers get screwed again....

I’ve always said that ALL who live on the Public Dole (welfare, WIC, etc.) should be made to do public works jobs to earn their handouts.....but Unions won’t allow it.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned in life, it’s that sometimes non-optimal situations can have silver linings that more than make it worth the hassle in the end, if you’re just willing to put in a little work. That and having some control of your own destiny in exchange for effort has it’s own rewards that can have a very high value.

I have long wondered why the food stamp program does not require that the amount allocated to kids is also to be used to pay for their school lunches as well as other meal programs. Seems like double dipping for those whose parents will not feed them at home. My sister and I both worked cleaning a class room each school day to pay for our tuition at parochial schools and generally had friends keeping us company and never did we feel in any way put upon etc. A relative worked in the cafeteria to help with her children’s tuition and my children held jobs instead of receiving allowances. Who has gained from the culture of responsibility avoidance whatever the social level they come from? It takes a rather stern approach from this WV state delegate to get the attention of citizens who pay taxes coming and going for social experiments that are contributing to the cultural deterioration of America.
