Barbara Bush on Son Jeb in 2016: ‘We’ve Had Enough Bushes’
New York Times ^ | April 25, 2013 | SARAH WHEATON

After having a husband and a son in the White House, Barbara Bush said she did not miss “one darn thing” about life there. And she does not want another reason to go back, even if it means depriving the country of the “best-qualified man.”

On Thursday, Mrs. Bush, the former first lady and first mom, announced on the “Today” show that she does not want her son Jeb Bush to run for president.

“He’s by far the best-qualified man, but no. I really don’t,” Mrs. Bush told Matt Lauer when asked if she wanted to see Jeb Bush, the former Florida governor, make a White House bid. “I think it’s a great country, there are a lot of great families, and it’s not just four families or whatever. There are other people out there that are very qualified, and we’ve had enough Bushes.”

Since before President George W. Bush left office, the political prospects of Jeb Bush have been a constant source of speculation in Republican circles. And it seems to always be Barbara Bush and former President George H.W. Bush who put a damper on the presidential rumors.

I don't believe it for a second.

Agreed. We’ve had two Bushes and only one Clinton. Time to make up the difference!

And I don’t miss her pruney face, her awful print dresses, and her elitist attitude.

Ive lived in Fla since 1969,, seen alot of Govs come and go and I can say (just my opinion) he was one of the best. Multiple hurricanes crossed the state in 2005, I thought he handled it great. Having said that, being a gov and a Pres are 2 different things but hey, surely he’d do a better job than a comunity organizer.

There’s one thing with which we can agree with Mrs. Bush. The nation has had enough Bushes and Clintons and Kennedys.

When my grandson attended a private Baptist school in Houston she was the story lady on several occasions each year. Wonderful sense of humor, very gracious and the kids loved having her read to them.

Older women often have pruney faces and wear print dresses with pearls, neither of which I find offensive and certainly more appropriate for her age than some of the garb Mochelle wears for her court appearances.

my nephew was on the US Army Golden Knights parachute team and spent time with the Bush family... and he says they are the nicest people you could want to meet... and she is welcoming, warm, friendly... not elitist at all... he said the family is really pretty down to earth... he was shocked...

Can you explain away her elitist attitude?

In my contacts with her at school I always found her to be more of a grandmother and very much the matriarch of her family. Of course she and I are not that far apart in age and both Texas females so....

I’m sure if I were the President’s wife I would have something of a feeling of uniqueness. I would consider Michelle Obama as someone who exhibits an elitist attitude, much more so than Barbara Bush. Michelle wants to control everything and everyone’s children which is not something I ever personally saw Barbara do.
