Immigration reform is a no-brainer to help the economy
The Guardian ^ | April 25 2013 | Grover Norquist

Posted on 04/25/2013 1:51:51 PM PDT by AuntB

People are an asset, not a liability. The United States is the most immigrant-friendly nation in the world and the richest country in the world. This is not a coincidence. Those voices that would make us less immigrant-friendly would make us less successful, less prosperous, and certainly less American.

Today, some 11 million "undocumented workers" live in the shadows in the United States. Sixty percent of them crossed the Mexican border or the Canadian border without government approval and 40% arrived by plane and overstayed their visas.

The 844-page immigration reform bill submitted to the Senate by the "Gang of Eight" senators would allow the 11 million to earn legal status by submitting to a background check to weed out those with felony convictions, paying back taxes and a fine. They would then be Registered Provisional Immigrants (RPI), allowing them to work anywhere in the United States, denied means-tested federal welfare benefits for 10 years, and only after the 10 years become eligible for the 3-5 year process of becoming citizens.

This legislation would greatly strengthen the American economy. When a similar immigration reform measure passed in 1986, those immigrants granted legal status saw their incomes rise by 15% simply because they could move around, hold a driver's license, and interview for work without fear. Their legal status made more employers willing to hire them......

There is one piece of legislation now before Congress that would dramatically reduce the deficit over the next decade. That bill has widespread and bipartisan support from Tea Party leaders like Senator Rand Paul (Republican, Kentucky) and Marco Rubio (Republican, Florida) as well as the US Chamber of Commerce, the AFL-CIO labor federation, and the American Farm Bureau. That deficit-reducing legislation is S744, the Border Security, Economic Opportunity, and Immigration Modernization Act of 2013.

The Norquist propaganda machine is on hi speed!

"People are an asset, not a liability. The Senate's immigration bill would reduce America's deficit and should be passed soon"

IF that were the case, the 20 million plus anchor babies should have saved us from this recession. And the places the aliens left would not be 3rd world dumps.

GROVER NORQUIST is a liar and is doing the bidding of his corporate masters. He's a lobbyist writing law. THAT is what your senate is allowing.

One more item you need to be aware of.

The State Dept gave refugee status to the bombers family, probably through USAID, and WHO worked for them....

[snip]Without a doubt, Grover Norquist’s team has infiltrated USAID’s lucrative contract whirl.

In April of 2005, the respected scholar Daniel Pipes asked “Is Grover Norquist an Islamist?” Grover’s November 2004 marriage to the Muslim Samah Alrayyes reveals an insider at USAID in the Bush years. Samah Norquist’s bio is an indictment of Grover Norquist’s designs on USAID contract information. Samah was the Public Affairs Specialist for Arab and Muslim outreach at the Bureau of Legislative and Public Affairs at USAID....

In her position, she works on developing and implementing communications and public affairs planning with regard to various Muslim and Arab outreach issues including USAID activites in Iraq, Afghanistan, Middle and Near East and many parts of the Muslim world where AID is present. This includes serving as a liaison with Muslim and Arab American interest groups to brief them on USAID activities in the developing world and coordination of the Agency’s participation in events, conferences, and discussions designed to educate the publics about American foreign assistance.

Notably, Samah Norquist served on the board of the Islamic Free Enterprise Institute along with Khaled Saffuri. And for those, like Cleta Mitchell, who are willfully blind to the activities of Grover Norquist on the Shariah Compliant front and possible connections with Muslim Brotherhood operations in the tiers of the non-profit industry, it should be noted that a third operative of the Alamoudi stripe has made it big in the world of USAID.

Grover Norquist is a no-brainer. His utility is over. He is now an Islamist because of his pee-pee. Good for him. Sucks to be us, if we listen.

People are an asset, not a liability.

Even if true in many cases it is certainly not a universal truth. For example see the Boston Marathon bombers.

Now if we were to have an immigration program which tried to find those who would be assets to the country and reject those who would be a liability, including any family immigration, then that might be a good plan to start with. On the other hand those who are most likely to be assets are those most likely to become Republicans, and the Dems pushing for immigration reform don't want that. They want people who will pickup their welfare checks and check off Dems in the election.

(1) When is the treatment of American citizens in Mexico and their rights vs US treatment of Mexicans going to be an issue when we discuss amnesty ? And two other questions US legislators should ask

Here are three questions:that has yet to appear on any US legislator’s questionaire from either chamber

ASK YOUR FEDERAL LEGISLATORS WHY IT HASN’T

Issue One

!...Should Mexican citizens when in the US be given the same rights American citizens are given while in Mexico? .......

2.. The Mexican government through public statements and educational system lays claims to major portions or to all of some of our southwestern states as part of the Mexican nation. Are we asking for trouble by granting their illegals an expressed path to our citizenship laying the groundwork for “squatters rights” at some future date ?

3... If it is deemed necessary to supplement the US labor force by allowing itinerant labor should the individual states make the determiniation as to the number should the offer being needed ? And should that offer not be restricted simply to Mexican nationals but to other central and south American countries as well ? Why should Mexican nationals eat up their quota ?

Issue

“background check to weed out those with felony convictions”

Misdemeanors like DUI don't disqualify an "immigrant." Isn't that swell?

"People are an asset, not a liability. "

Good ol' Grover. He sure doesn't see conservatives as an asset.

My goodness, you sound like one of those ‘Bitter Enders’ Grover Norquist warned us about...one of those loathsome
‘restrictionists, who merely think of themselves as conservatives’!

Prepare to be ‘marginalized’!!!! Grover need his amnesty, so get over yourself.

Grover vs. ‘the Bitter Enders’(Grover trying to give Rubio political cover)

[snip] Grover Norquist is known as an anti-tax crusader, but in the coming weeks he will be just as much a pro-immigration crusader, combatting what he calls the “bitter enders” who oppose comprehensive immigration reform. Norquist says that he’s trying to counteract the effect of “a handful of radio talk-show hosts who talk loudly.” “The bitter-enders who are still responding to radio talk-show hosts from eight years ago haven’t noticed that the world has shifted from underneath them,” he says. “The people who need cover are the guys who are still voting like they were Pat Buchanan."

[snip]”In an unlikely pairing, renowned anti-tax activist Grover Norquist stood alongside AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka, the leader of the nation’s largest labor coalition. Senators from both parties yukked it up with jokes throughout the hour-long affair.

After the conference ended, Norquist predicted the Gang of Eight would succeed, arguing that opponents like Sessions and Vitter, who sunk the last immigration bill in 2007, have been marginalized. Restrictionists, Norquist said, are people who merely “think of themselves as conservatives...If you’re a Republican, you look at the business community wants it, the religious community wants it,” he told reporters. “Who is the opposition? Are you all getting a little tired of being insulted by these political whores on our side of the isle?? It's expected from the other side, but maybe THEY are the other side.

“People are an asset, not a liability.”
Grover Norquist is a liability, not an asset.
Therefore, Grover Norquist is not a person. [My apologies to Aristotle]

I simply don’t understand power. How is it that someone like this gets it?

I’ve heard it said that talent is a strange bird - it will land in any kind of tree. But power seems like it should be based on some quality, and that it should come to only certain types of people. Any ideas about how one comes by it?

The gang doesn’t even have democrat support!

Check it out:

Poll: 66% of Democrats Want Border Secured Before Legalization

http://townhall.com/news/around-the-web/2013/04/24/poll-66-of-democrats-want-border-secured-before-legalization-n1577216

A new poll from FoxNews finds that 66% of Democrats believe the border should be secured before the nation considers changes to its immigration policies. 75% of Republicans feel the same. Overall, 68% of voters believe securing the border should come before any moves towards legalization.

The only thing I can come up with is people hungry for power & $$$ will sell out all of us to get it.

Since 1986, neither party has done a damned thing to stop illegal immigration.

1) The Republicans (read Chamber of Commerce)amnesty whores, want cheap labor, and then shift to the American taxpayer, all of the welfare costs.

2)The Democrats want undocumented Democrats.

If amnesty passes THIS time, the Republican party is finished holding any power in America.
