No. She lied; he mispoke. Not excusing him. Just pointing out that he didn't mean to legitimize rape.
Just pointing out the difference between how Democrats and Republicans treat their own.
He sure should have. We can tolerate rapists, perverts, thieves, embezzelers, crooks and liars, we routinely return people like that to high office all the time and think nothing of it. But a verbal screw-up like what Akin did and he should be banished from politics for life. Sometimes I don't blame good people for not wanting to run for office. We are accepting of the real low-lifes in politics, and brutal to good people doing their best who make mistakes. We don't deserve good leaders.
Too bad HE wasn’t able to get off the hot seat by saying “What difference does it make?”!
Absolutely!
I would assume “conservatives” in quotes was used facetiously.
Some of my democrat operative acquaintances believe that comment changed the outcome entire election cycle.
By your standard, Akin was the opposite of a “coward” for staying in the race. How did that work out?
Yet here you are flapping your gums about it and squealing like a liberal.
Useful tool of the left.
If that's true it's a pretty sad commentary on the intellectual depth of the American people.
And you’re castigating me for pointing out what a moron Akin is ?
Nobody can steer clear of the media. Virtually every conservative in the race was tagged with some stupid statement because the media made sure to make an issue of them while letting moderate stupidity slide.
Nothing made the media happier than Kapo Karl Rove running out to denounce those statements. Akins was about as bad as they get but that doesn’t excuse the media or the moderates who happily joined in.
Michele Bachmann took all kinds of crap from both sides from being accused of being unfit to serve because of Migraines to FReepers insinuating that her husband is gay. There were also the out of context attacks like her comment that we can even drill in the Everglades if we wish (There are working wells there now). They accused her of being stupid when speaking about terrorism but ignored the fact that she is on the permanent select committee on intell and actually knows what she’s talking about. Rick Santorum took the same kind of crap.
Not a peep out of the media for Romney’s bizarre speech about Michigan trees and brown grass. Once he was the nominee it was a different story.
Didn’t work out too well for the truth, I’ll give you that.
They're embarrassed by extremists who believe in things like natural rights.
Just don't do anything that takes any of their damn money.
It's been a depressing awakening to realize that greed trumps all for the "economically conservative/socially liberal" frauds.
Well, when you take a look around sometimes, talk to people, etc., it’s not much of a leap to conclude that there may be something to it. That, and a tribal mentality among certain demographic groups.
Yep and I would like to see us “have their back” when the media pulls this crap, instead of chiming in with the media against our own. And especially for those of our own who are willing to stand up and fight this instead of cowering and backing down. Too many Republicans cave in to this and quit before we can even have a chance to stand up for them and defend them. The media has got our number on this, we react just like they want us to, but it seems we could put a stop to it if we didn’t demand perfection from our candidates before we will defend them.
Here in Michigan they underestimated the support for Dave Agema and even our liberal GOP governor and moderate GOP chair chose to keep their mouths shut when the media started hounding them to denounce Agema.
