The Collapsing of the American Skull (Mark Steyn)
National Review Online ^ | April 26, 2013 | Mark Steyn

Posted on 04/27/2013 12:51:45 AM PDT by neverdem

One of the most ingenious and effective strategies of the Left on any number of topics is to frame the debate and co-opt the language so effectively that it becomes all but impossible even to discuss the subject honestly. Take the brothers Tsarnaev, the incendiary end of a Chechen family that in very short time has settled aunts, uncles, sisters, and more across the map of North America from Massachusetts to New Jersey to my own home town of Toronto. Maybe your town has a Tsarnaev, too: There seems to be no shortage of them, except, oddly, back in Chechnya. The Tsarnaevs’...

--snip--

We’re more fatalistic about it: After Major Hasan gunned down 13 of his comrades and an unborn baby, General Casey, the Army’s chief of staff, assured us that it could have been a whole lot worse:

“What happened at Fort Hood was a tragedy, but I believe it would be an even greater tragedy if our diversity becomes a casualty here.”

--snip--

America is the abortion mill of the developed world. In Western Europe, the state is yet squeamish enough to insist that the act be confined to twelve weeks (France) or 13 (Italy), with mandatory counseling (Germany), or up to 18 if approved by a government “commission” (Norway).

--snip--

We’re collapsing our own skulls here — the parameters in which we allow ourselves to think about abortion, welfare, immigration, terrorism, Islam shrink remorselessly, not least at the congressional level. Maybe if we didn’t collapse the skulls of so many black babies in Philadelphia, we wouldn’t need to import so many excitable young Chechens. But that’s thinking outside the box, and the box is getting ever smaller, like a nice, cozy cocoon in which we’re always warm and safe. Like — what’s the word? — a womb.

Mark Steyn is exactly the kind of immigrant we need. We need more Mark Steyns and fewer undereducated, social services-consuming democrats. However, the immigration reform being considered will likely repel countless number of the former and bring us millions more of the latter.

I would argue that Steyn has not been properly assimilated. He communicates eloquently with a barb or two thrown in for good measure.

His concentration is on insightful views of important events and social issues. His work should focus more on the political views of celebrity experts, and furthering the agenda of the present administration.

He exhibits common sense. How he managed to slip by the bureaucrats and attain citizenship is a mystery to me. /S

Zackly!

And using the term “mainstream media” when there is nothing mainstream about them only plays into their hands. The accurate term is the “Corrupt Liberal Media” with “Corrupt” being the operative word. Other handy terms are “presstitutes” instead of the press and “coverupage” instead of coverage.

The Corrupt Liberal Media is the life blood of the left and if the above terms became household words it would hit home with the presstitutes in the 5th Estate.

Important point about “congress” having the most collapsing skulls...

The left can howl at the moon all they want, but until congress puts teeth into legislation though policy or regulation.... They are basically a distraction to normal rational thinking people....

congress though it’s cravenness and lust for power and greed and total disregard for their scared duty to uphold defend and obey the Consitution and represent the people have wrought us a whirlwind just getting off the ground...

Problem is, there are too many of them. Some are born and the rest are indoctrinated at our public school and levels of higher “education” indoctrination centers (colleges).

Under pressure from pro-Islamic groups---and Allah?---Obomba decreed that all law enforcement, intelligence and military scrub references on threats posed by radical Islamists.

Obama’s Policy of Scrubbing Muslim Terms Under Question / by Rowan Scarborough, The Washington Times

Even before the Boston Marathon bombings, the Obama administration argued for years that there is a big difference between terrorists and the tenets of Islam.

A senior White House aide in 2009 publicly urged Washington to cease using the term “jihadist” — asserting that terrorists are simply extremists. Two years later, the White House ordered a cleansing of training materials that Islamic groups deemed offensive.

Now, some analysts are asking whether the 2009 edict and others that followed have dampened law enforcement’s appetite to thoroughly investigate terrorism suspects for fear of offending higher-ups or the American Muslim lobby.

It is not just the case of Tamerlan Tsarnaev, a radicalized jihadist whom the FBI questioned in 2011 and cleared of terrorism links. At least five Muslims have attempted mass destruction in the US since 2009, undetected beforehand by law enforcement and the intelligence community:

<><> Abdulhakim Mujahid Muhammad opened fire at a military recruiting office in Little Rock, Ark., in June 2009, killing one soldier.

<><>Najibullah Zazi, who said he was a member of al Qaeda, tried to detonate bombs in New York City’s subway in September 2009.

<><> Army Maj. Nadal Malik Hassan opened fire at a soldier processing center at Fort Hood, Texas, killing 13.

<><> Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab tried to explode a bomb hidden in his underwear onboard a flight to Detroit in December 2009.

<><> Faisal Shahzad attempted to detonate a car bomb in Times Square in May 2010.

Steven Emerson runs the Investigative Project on Terrorism, which monitors a network of Islamic groups with ties to the Muslim Brotherhood, whose stated goal is to impose Shariah, or Islamic law, on the world.

“Numerous experts on Islamic terrorism like myself, who had given 143 lectures at the FBI and CIA, were banned from speaking to any US government counterterrorism conferences,” Mr. Emerson told The Washington Times. “Instead, these agencies were ordered to invite Muslim Brotherhood front groups.”

The biggest White House push to tone down training on jihadists emerged in 2011, the same year the Russian government warned the US about Tamerlan Tsarnaev, whose parents hailed from Chechnya, a hotbed of radical Islamists. Tamerlan and younger brother Dzhokhar Tsarnaev are accused of placing the two bombs that killed three and wounded more than 260 at the Boston Marathon.

In October 2011, 57 Islamic groups wrote a letter to John O. Brennan, now CIA director, but then President Obama’s chief counterterrorism adviser.

Citing news reports, the groups complained of “biased, false and highly offensive training materials about Muslims and Islam” inside the federal government’s instructional halls. “While recent news reports have highlighted the FBI’s use of biased experts and training materials, we have learned that this problem extends far beyond the FBI and has infected other government agencies, including the US Attorney’s Anti-Terrorism Advisory Councils, the US Department of Homeland Security, and the US Army,” the letter read.

Muslims objected to several training guides, such as a 2009 report produced at the Army Command and General Staff at the Fort Leavenworth School of Advanced Military Studies. “Moderate Muslims are not exercising moderation; they are simply applying other means to accomplish the same goal of establishing global Islamic dominance,” it quoted the report as saying.

At least two of the 57 groups were listed by the Justice Department as unindicted co-conspirators and as being connected to the Muslim Brotherhood in the prosecution of a Texas charity for funding Hamas, a US-designated terrorist organization. The groups are the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) and the Islamic Society of North America.

The organizations’ letter demanded that biased trainers be disciplined, that all instructors undergo retraining and that materials deemed offensive by Muslim activists be purged.

The White House issued an edict to scrub all law enforcement, intelligence and military teachings on Islam. The FBI ended up discarding pages of information that warned about the threat from the Brotherhood.

As I predicted it didn’t take long for the media template “ America isn’t welcoming to immigrants and we need to examine ourselves to see how we caused this tragedy! It’s our American culture that’s the problem. To solve it we must import more diversity to make America more representative of the world!”
They’re going to turn the Boston bombing into a media template for “immigration reform.”

It is amazing how many people don’t realize the traditional color coding of GOP = blue, Dem = red, was turned on its head in the 2000 election.

Red was always the color of the Left. Look at the flags of the Soviet Union and China. Heck, the Nazi flag incorporated a lot of red because before they took total power, they needed to attract communist converts.

THE PC GOP IS KILLING US!

You all must be some of those ‘islamaphobes’ that Grover Norquist warned us about. Now, he’s been busy trying to rid the GOP of such bigots, and here you all are getting in his way! You could have guessed who else in the GOP is aiding him on his jihad to protect radical Islam at any cost...YEP..JOHN MCCAIN and MARCO RUBIO! With some help from Boehner. AMNESTY IS NOT ABOUT POOR MEXICAN MIGRANTS!

[snip]But after a November election that saw three of the party’s loudest voices on “creeping Shariah” defeated—and the GOP presidential nominee ignore the issue entirely—the anti-Islam movement within the Republican party may have peaked. Wary of further alienating a once-promising conservative constituency, mainstream Republican leaders have sought, publicly and behind closed doors, to distance themselves from the loudest of the Muslim-bashers in their midst.

“They have gotten a bit of bad odor,” says GOP power-broker Grover Norquist, who has pushed to change his party’s tone on Islam.

A turning point came in July, when Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.), along with four Republican colleagues, signed a letter demanding an investigation into the Muslim Brotherhood’s supposed infiltration of the State Department.

Days later, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) had condemned Bachmann’s letter from the floor of the Senate, calling it “unwarranted and unfounded” and “scurrilous.” Speaker of the House John Boehner piled on, calling the letter “dangerous.”

Sen. Marco Rubio, the Florida senator and tea party favorite widely touted as a potential 2016 contender, publicly denounced the allegations promoted by Bachmann and her allies, like former Reagan official and longtime anti-Shariah activist Frank Gaffney.

Norquist, who runs the influential group Americans for Tax Reform, says that following the letter controversy, “We have heard back from a bunch of Hill staffers—’We are keeping our guy away from Gaffney and those guys, they’re crazy.’”

Gaffney has been blacklisted from the American Conservative Union, which hosts the annual CPAC confab, since 2011, after accusing Norquist and an associate, Suhail Khan, of aiding the Muslim Brotherhood..... His insistence on accusing anyone who deviates from his anti-Shariah line of terrorist sympathies has put him on the outs with the Republican establishment”

http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2013/01/muslim-shariah-republican-herman-cain-grover-norquist-allen-west

PS...this is an interesting article, even if from MJ...it goes on to tell about Herman Cain criticizing Islam and Grover Norquist getting Cain’s thinking right on that subject.

One of the most ingenious and effective strategies of the Left on any number of topics is to frame the debate and co-opt the language so effectively that it becomes all but impossible even to discuss the subject honestly
. . . and then to accuse everyone else of using code words. They themselves will not allow - have the ability, from the commanding propaganda heights, to prevent - use from using the language with traditional meanings of traditional words.

“Starting” - the phenomenon undoubtedly is even older - with their inversion of the meaning of the word “liberal” in the 1920s. They call themselves “progressives” and us “conservatives” - whereas in fact it is we who favor progress of, by, and for the American people, and people generally, and they who can be relied upon to attack the engines of that progress as evil and monopolistic.

The reality is that American business, free to fail and thus free to succeed and responsible to succeed - has doubled the standard of living repeatedly in our history. To such an extent that an American secretary today arguably has a better standard of living than Queen Victoria had in the Nineteenth Century. And the reality is that the left dominates the propaganda heights because of the homogenizing effect of the telegraph and the Associated Press on journalism. Journalism is only talk, and

People of the same trade seldom meet together, even for merriment and diversion, but the conversation ends in a conspiracy against the public, or in some contrivance to raise prices. It is impossible indeed to prevent such meetings, by any law which either could be executed, or would be consistent with liberty and justice. But though the law cannot hinder people of the same trade from sometimes assembling together, it ought to do nothing to facilitate such assemblies; much less to render them necessary. - Adam Smith, Wealth of Nations (Book I, Ch 10)
The Associated Press reconstitutes a continual virtual “meeting” of all newspapers, and over the past century and a half it has reduced the independence of newspapers to window dressing. Journalism is the biggest monopoly going in America.

If you counter “it” you are acknowledging “it”. If you acknowledge “it” you are letting “it” know that “it” is a threat. If you simply “ignore” it and don’t debate “it”, “it” has no power over your life.

In a nation of rational people, that is an accurate statement.
In a country full of truly stupid people, including in congress, that statement is nonsensical and irrelevant.
Both domestic born "citizens," and virtually all illegal aliens are profoundly ignorant, politically stupid, instant gratification nincompoops who are increasingly invited to participate in the matter of maintaining a healthy dynamic society.

All the while bleeding working taxpayers dry with welfare fraud simultaneously with off the books income, and assuring a growing bureaucracy which exists for the sole purpose of doling out the national wealth.

The monopolistic characteristic of the AP is what unified journalism around the claim of “journalistic objectivity.” The propaganda power of the AP raised alarms early in its existence, and the AP used the fact that its members were then notorious for not agreeing about much of anything as a facade of impartiality. Of course we have seen that the resulting propaganda campaign to the effect that all journalists are objective quickly homogenized journalism - and that should put paid to any argument based on the diversity of opinion in journalism!
The further irony of the claim of journalistic objectivity is that no one can actually know - certainly not in real time - that he, or anyone who agrees with himself, is actually objective. There is no philosophical objection to claiming that you are trying to be objective - if in fact you are making a good-faith effort - but claiming actually to be objective is objectionable on the firm ground that it is sophistry. After all, I doubt that any journalist would like to parse the difference between a claim of objectivity and a claim of wisdom - and the very word “sophistry” derives directly from ancient Greeks who directly claimed to be wise. Those who opposed them adopted the name “philosophers” for themselves, claiming only to love wisdom and not actually to be wise.

That is awesome. Where did you get that or is it yours?
The idea that
The propaganda power of the AP raised alarms early in its existence, and the AP used the fact that its members were then notorious for not agreeing about much of anything as a facade of impartiality
is to be found in
News Over the Wires:
The Telegraph and the Flow of Public Information in America, 1844-1897
by Menahem Blondheim
I recommend the book highly, for a critical look at the AP. But I claim authorship of everything I said to you other than the self-quote above.

If you are interested in the development of my theory of the history of journalism, the late replies of my vanity

Journalism and Objectivity

would be where to look.

The Right to Know,
Why Broadcast Journalism is Unnecessary and Illegitimate, and
The Market for Conservative-Based News

will give you some idea of how long some of this has been gestating. By now you’re probably sorry you asked!
