NewsBusters readers know Ellen Ratner as the perilously liberal news analyst typically offering the left-wing views on Fox News Watch.
On Thursday, Ratner published an article titled "George W. Bush Has Saved More Lives Than Any American President" that is guaranteed to shock the heck out of you as it angers folks on her side of the aisle:
"George W. Bush, not Barack Obama, is the real American hero in Africa," she amazingly began. "Take it from me, a liberal Democrat who voted for Obama twice."
After discussing her knowledge of the problems on that continent, Ratner continued her praise of our 43rd president:
Back in early 2008, when I started my work in South Sudan--I have been working closely with Christian Solidarity International--everyone was excited about the possibility of Barack Obama becoming president. [...]
Indeed, after Obama won the U.S. election in November of 2008, many Africans, in South Sudan, and everywhere else, were proud to wear T-shirts with photos of President Obama on them
Yet now that Obamas first term has drawn to a close, the positive buzz about Obama has dramatically shifted; the Obama excitement, and the T-shirts, have most disappeared.
In fact, South Sudanese today are thinking more about another U.S. president: that would be Obamas predecessor, Bush 43. As a liberal Democrat and Obama supporter, I was particularly struck by this. Yes, Bush is a hero in Africa, and Americans, too, should know why.
No American president, before or since, has had Bushs vision and determination to save so many millions of lives.
As you likely surmised, Ratner was referring to Bush's African AIDS program (PEPFAR).
"Five million children, women and men have received antiretroviral treatment under PEPFAR," Ratner wrote. "In 2010 alone, 600,000 pregnant mothers received treatment so their newborn children would not be infected. Yes, millions of people live productive, healthy lives due to Bush 43."
After discussing a new program the Bush's are working on to fight cervical cancer, Ratner concluded, ""[T]his liberal commentator thanks president and Mrs. Bush every single day for their amazing and tireless work for humanity. They are wonderful role models for future leaders around the world. I wish more leaders would follow the shining example of George W. and Laura Bush."
Indeed, and I wish more liberal media members would follow the shining example of Ellen Ratner by being willing to give praise to politicians on the other side of the aisle when they deserve.
Brava, Ellen! Brava!
Enter Obama. He's full of greater good ideology. He's greater and he decides who's good.
Oh she’s full of crap. She just wants to deliver a eulogy at Pappy’s funeral, Of which she’s caught scent of in the wind.
“If a Liberal says anything at all complimentary about the Right, you can bet its said grudgingly and must be true.”
If you think George W. Bush is a man of the Right, you need to have your head examined.
Rat Face Ratner did more than her part to demonize George Bush during his presidency.
She well knew the constant attacks on him were without substance but she was unrelenting in her condemnation of him and his policies.
Obama has continued many of the same Bush policies she and other lefties were so upset over, yet nary a bit of criticism has been heard from her.
She has a long way to go to redeem herself.
I don’t think she could live long enough to atone for her bitter partisanship even if she started right now.
Actually, this recent flood of revisionist Bush news is preparing the peasants for Jeb.
She probably already gets hate mail from the left for daring to appear on Fox News.
Yeah, I remember that and every time she was on, I muted her. As I did and do with all liberals. I am just not intereested in what they have to say
So GWBush is lauded for stealing from the US taxpayers and giving to the Black Oligarths in Africa, this is a peculiar disease of the Western Elite. That’s a real Conservative steal from the poor in the West and give to the Black oppressor of the poor in Africa. Bah, GWB is a complete fool, a worthless President and will always be such no matter whatever the greater fools say!
It’s NOT revisionist history. It is well known that W spent a lot of time and effort in Africa.
In many countries, there are buildings and streets named after him.
W did things, and never called attention to them. He really did spend tons of US taxpayer money all over Africa in an attempt to crush AIDS. Its well documented. Its well under reported.
The fact is, W is a hero in most of backwash Africa.
I heard that interview too on Fox News. Eric Draper said that he was laying on the ground and President Bush asked him “Eric, what are you doing?” after which Eric Draper replied: “But sir, Barney is under the bench”
I never denied he did good. Public PERCEPTION of him is being altered. The Big Money is preparing for a Jeb Bush run for the White House, and part of that is getting people to forget “Watch this drive,” “You’re doing a helluva job Brownie,” the Great Recession, etc. The Bush brand is shiate right now.
And the peasants will fall for this marketing campaign, too, and think a presidential contest between Hillary and another Bush possesses credibility.
Watch and see.
His mother doesn’t want him to run. She says No more Bushes
The Big Money obviously wants him in as puppet. Or Hillary. They win either way. It makes no difference.
Look at how they’re profiting from the supposed Black Messiah.
Observe carefully if Jeb receives an escalating quantity of face time on the corporate news, particularly now that Marco Rubio is slowly falling out of favor. The same goes for Hillary.
Watch and see.
I don’t know why you ditected your comment to me, but I will say one thing that was different about the Bush inititive in Africa is that it was largely adminstered through private agencies. They didn’t just hand the money to the local dictators, which is probably why it actually worked to whatever degree is has.
I'd say one of my favorite things about GWB is how much he loved that dog.
Yes, I think the same. How many more decades are we going to tell people how to prevent HIV/AIDS before we say enough? We could have bought the whole of Africa with the amount of aid we've poured down that rat-hole. I've wondered just how much of that Aid went into the pockets of political leaders, on both sides of the pond. As I see it, Bush should have sent his own d@^^&d money over there. It's not hard to spend our money and send our children into debt. His children will never have to suffer they way ours will.
That is probably more likely than immigration reform. It would guarantee the dems the wh for another 4 yrs.
As I recall, that program involved vast sums of taxpayer money.
sorry Hugin, that post was not directed at you...just omni-direction, the ‘great GWB’ spew from the right side got my BP up.
