Last August, in the midst of an overheated campaign season in Texas and a scorching summer drought, Lubbock County Judge Tom Head appeared on local television to vent. He was worried about the consequences of re-electing Barack Obama. "He is going to try to hand over the sovereignty of the United States to the U.N.," Judge Head warned, imagining a physical confrontation with blue-helmeted peacekeepers. "I'm going to stand in front of their armored personnel carriers and say, 'You're not coming in here.' "
The U.N. seized on this fiasco to poke some fun: "No one, not even the United Nations," Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon's press secretary said, "would ever mess with Texas." Natives cringed: A Texas politico had again made the wrong kind of national headlines, providing more fodder for disdainful Texas skeptics like Gail Collins, whose book, "As Texas Goes . . . How the Lone Star State Hijacked the American Agenda," argued that the state is governed by an ultra-reactionary "ideology of empty places," dragging down the rest of the country with its retrograde religious mores and penchant for anarchic deregulation.....

It seems like half of CA is moving here, and I keep running into people who have recently moved here from Massachusettes, and New Jersey.

In the next few election cycles the entire country could change. That’s enough time for the current generation starting out of high school in 2008, to be entering middle age, with still no opportunities like their parents. The next few elections could be explosive.
Most of the new arrivals I know are conservative refugees from other oppressed states. Most of the liberals coming to Texas head for Austin.
There will be a revolution before the next few election cycles to prevent that. I’ll be in the forefront.
Yes, I know—I live in Lakeway, which has become a suburb due to the growth out this way.
I was in the Dallas-Fort Worth area for the past few days and was amazed at the civic pride of Texans.
It seems Texans show more pride in their state than do the citizens of any other. Lone Star symbols are found everywhere, as are state flags. I haven’t been to all of the states, but I’ve never seen so many state flags flying from the front porches of private homes in any other state. I even saw the entire wall of an apartment building in the Arlington area painted in the colors of the Texas flag.
Civic pride seems to go naturally with conservative and patriotic values.
well as a texan for 40 years and a single pull of the lever republican, I can say...he is too right. Here are the cities run by democRATS, Dallas, Ft.Worth, Houston, Austin, San Antonio and more suburbs than most people can consider. Tell me how if 50% of the population is in the cities above, how turning blue is not possible?
Georgia went 53.4% republican in 2012, Texas went 57.2% republican, Texas is a longggg way from switching to “deep blue” to quote post 2.
Texas is not a passive, libertarian, rino state like California was, Texas is full of social conservatives and will fight the left at all levels.
Texas and California have the exact same percentage of Hispanics.
geez, you fail to read my stats...the cities are controlled by democRATS and the suburbs are right behind, take a look at some of the school classes now being taught in TX. On top of that republicans have been spending money that was in set asides - gas tax for roads, hunting/fishing liscense money for parks - on other budget items. That is not conservative and not what we want from our government. If republicans won’t spend gas money on highways but on other programs what difference is there between rats in pubbies?

I read your post but didn’t see many stats in it, just as I don’t see much info in this post.
You have complaints but it doesn’t change the fact that Texas isn’t going deep blue any time soon.
