In his short time at the Capitol, Senator Ted Cruz, a freshman Republican from Texas, has shown little regard for long-standing rules of decorum. But on Friday, he publicly discussed the closed-door dealings of the Senate Republican Conference and trashed his colleagues in the process.
Stopping by a Texas meeting of the Tea Party-aligned group FreedomWorks, Mr. Cruz called many of his colleagues squishes, forced to stand on conservative principles by the uncompromising stands of a triumphant trio of Republican constitutionalists: himself and Senators Mike Lee of Utah and Rand Paul of Kentucky.
At stake was the gun control legislation that the Senate dragged down this month. At issue for Mr. Cruz might be his exposure of a series of closed-door luncheons in which fellow Republicans took the three to task for announcing in advance that they would filibuster every single vote on the gun measure, including the simple motion to take up and begin debating the bill. Such meetings are expressly off the record.
Weve had probably five or six lunches with a bunch of Republican senators standing up and looking at Rand and Mike and me and yelling at the top of their lungs I mean really upset, he told the group to laughter and titters, according to a video posted by a Tea Party blogger and promoted by the liberal group People for the American Way. And they said: Why did you do this? As a result of what you did, when I go home, my constituents are yelling at me that Ive got to stand on principle. Im not making that up. I dont even bother to argue with them. I just sort of let them yell.

Thank you Ted.
Clearly they have no grasp of "principle" as opposed to "opinion." The Constitution's language is not too complicated for a fifth-grader to understand.
Hold your ground. Let them yell.
If they can't understand "principle." no explanation is possible. If they do, no explanation should be necessary.
Dammit, what is it about the Second Amendment that they don't understand? Making America "better" does not mean ignoring the Constitution; no matter how well intentioned.
If ever you must respond, just suggest that they move to repeal the Second Amendment. Do they have the b***s for it? Ignoring it is not an option.
I have found Senators to be very arrogant. I believe they should all be limited to two terms. That should help keep the power from ossifying them.
The Senate's rules of decorum seem to be "shut up and go along because the people that have been here longer know better". I wish Cruz would aggravate one of them enough to get challenged to a duel. /s
Look around and see how well “Senate tradition” is working for us. I say rip that sucker out and stomp it flat.
Oh, the humanity!!!!!! Oh, the horror!!!!!! The kid has the audacity to show the Senate is a circular BOHICA!
me too, he is rapidly becoming my favorite Senator.
>> Yes, and Im proud to say I voted for him 3 times.
In three separate election, right? ;-)
Excellent link!
LOL! The Old Grey Whore (tm) finding fault with Cruz.
“’If you have a new pathway,”
They don’t which is why the Gang (aptly named) of 8 has to hatch their little plot in secret.
I haven't yet rewritten the lyrics to The Great Mandalla but such a project comes to mind frequently these days.
Coming from a paper that has supported the anti-American Kenyan iconoclast in the white house, who's slogan was 'change you can believe in', as he's trashed tradition these past 5 years this is beyond hilarious.
Real psychos, these leftists.
“Such meetings are expressly off the record. “
...Except when NYTimes. POLITICO, etc WANT to report what goes on LOL!
Of course! Just wanted to poke any lurking democrat in the eye. :)
Oh point me to the fainting couch. [rolls eyes]
Thank God I changed my mind and voted for Cruz!
I voted for Cruz and so far am very happy with my vote.
FTNYT.
What decorum?
I wish I could have seen that.
