Three new suspects have been charged in connection with the Boston Marathon bombing, two for conspiring to get rid of their friend's incriminating backpack filled with gutted fireworks after learning he was a suspect in the April 15 terror attack, and another for lying to investigators, according to an FBI affidavit released Wednesday.
Dias Kadyrbayev and Azamat Tazhayakova both 19-year-old natives of Kazakhstan and friends of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev at UMass-Dartmouth, allegedly went to Tsarnaev's dorm and took a laptop, the backpack and some Vaseline that may have been used in making the deadly pressure cooker bombs that killed three and injured more than 200 at the race. Police believe the bombs were packed with shrapnel and gunpowder removed from fireworks.
Robel Phillipos, of Cambridge, Mass., also 19, was charged with willfully making materially false statements to federal law enforcement officials during a terrorism investigation.
The affidavit filed in support of a complaint said Kadyrbayev was the one who carried out the disposal of the backpack after the three saw the fireworks that had been hollowed out and emptied of gunpowder.....

Presumably the nails and ball bearings had to be placed in position and not rattle around as the bomb is being carried. There are probably other possible uses but I’m not into googling for stuff like that.
Well...this is where it stands for now...but there may be more charges ahead as well...
Phillipos.. faces up to eight years in prison if convicted, along with a $250,000 fine;
the charges against Kadyrbayev.. and Tazhayakov... carry sentences of up to five years and $250,000 in fines
Yep.
For now.
So how did these three get to the dump with a lockdown order in place?
I suspect the backpack was dumped way before the timeframe they are admitting to.
Thanks for the ping and info!!
Irrespective of the vaselines use....why/how would the friends know to scoop up and dispose of the Vaseline as something that would be incriminating?
Unravelled fireworks, sure, that looks suspicious. But, if the three friends had no involvement or prior knowledge, why dispose of a jar of Vaseline? I imagine they didn’t throw dispose of a host of other items, toothpaste, shampoo, hair gel, wart ointment, etc. ...but they knew to dispose of the Vaseline, which is indeed incriminating?
It doesn’t suggest the three friends had no prior knowledge.
It’s been suggested they had no prior knowledge. Then why/how would they know to scoop up and dispose of something so otherwise enochuos as a jar of Vaseline among all the other things in the dorm room?
Were told the Vaseline had a very functional propose in bombing making.
Im not buying they didnt know something was coming, no way. They knew (or were told) what items to dispose of, among all the other crap in any dorm room.
Daisy, Anne, and Robin sounds about right.
Daze, Hazmat, and Rubble?
I thought they put the backpack etc, in a dumpster, not that they went to the dump.....?
Quote: “Kadyrbayev, an engineering major...”
A sophomore in any engineering program has had or is taking a course in electric circuits; has access to and instruction in using a multimeter and other equipment to build/diagnose circuitry; and, also has two-three course in physics. Enough to develop/test a remote trigger/detonator, certainly much more than your average IED builder in Afghanistan.
You may be right.....it would still be strange to even walk to a dumpster with so much going on and lockdown orders..but not as difficult for sure.
USA Today, excerpt:
“A Google Translate interpretation of Kadyrbayev’s boarding school information includes physics and mathematics as specialties and indicates he graduated with the class of 2011. Google also deciphers the word Zhautykov, and web searches indicate there is a Zhautykov Republican Specialized Physics-Mathematics boarding school for gifted students in Kazakhstan.”
Add to that engineering course at UMass Darmouth. And does it sound like someone who may have the technical ability to develop/test a remote detonator?
Just saying.
.... that might also play into why they could afford $900. sneakers which Bomber #2 was bragging about. The BMW was one of theirs, as the father stated earlier.
It looks to me so far like The Bombers sset the bombs...though yes Kadyrbaye may very well have “recognized” items laying around.
Well, that does remain to be seen...am thinking those investigating may be onto this possibility.
Interesting was listening to one of the Dr.s speak who heard the Bombs go off....he had served in Iraq and knew the sound of an IED.....when the first one went off he immediately said that it was an IED...outloud, though not speaking to any one directly...and listened for the second one he knew would follow, as was done in Iraq.
This link gives one great pause as those Dr.s etc. in the Tent areas explain happenings that followed the bombing....It’s quite the eye opener.....

Hey 2nddivision Vet...could you maybe do a thread on this....it really is an eye opener and lets us remember that there were real heros in this Boston Bombing...those who were in the Medical tent at the race had 100 beds ..this article brings us into there world for a momnet, on that day....

Ok...backing up..just learned they put it ‘in the dumpster’ and “watched” when the truck came to take it away.....which took it to the landfill. According to the investigation.
Pays to keep reading reports as things become clear and questions fade then.....there’s sooo much out there to read!
‘Aiding and abetting’ by harboring a fugitive terrorist carries a US Sentencing Guidelines Base Offense Level of 30, which translates to 97-121 months if a defendant has no criminal record, 70-87 months on a guilty plea. That range could go up or down depending on other aggravating or mitigating factors, ....
....but the potential ten-year sentence (served in a US prison) gives us an idea of the level of pressure on these new suspects to give evidence against the younger terrorist.
Every additional piece of evidence against him will make it harder for Tsarnaev to escape the death penalty.
Furthermore, the broader and deeper the investigation unfolds against the pre-bombing support network, the less information Tasarnaev has to bargain for his life. He's not getting any breaks in the federal court. Safe bet is, he'll get injected in a US Prison like Terra Haute about five or six years from now.

Would be interesting to find out what days of week the dumpster was emptied. If not day they claim it was, that will be a dead giveaway that they were more involved than they are saying.
Thank you so much for staying on top of things. I have been under the weather today.
Thanks you so much, dearest caww!
You’re right on top of the latest info.
Looks like it’s going to be each one trying to save his own butt and that’s good for information purposes.
Sweet pen.
I’m so sorry. Get well right now!
I think it was ‘early’ morning that day....I have no problem believing this is what happened...these guys weren’t sleeping well so likely stayed up til they saw it was gone.
