ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — House Speaker Paul Thissen decided Wednesday that the Minnesota House won’t vote on any gun control bills this year, a major priority for many Democrats coming into the legislative session but one that got stymied by divisions in the party over access to guns.

They were not willing to take a hit for President Obama, as the Democrats in Colorado were.

Minnesota is blue only by dint of Minneapolis/StPaul and a few other liberal bastions.
Some union vestiges exist. Minnesota somehow got a vibe like Washington state but a half-century earlier, thinking they were the enlightened frontier. Iowa is like Minn-lite. If they faced all the real blue state woes they’d change quickly, IMHO.
Just an observation from a traveler.
The Dems are busy trying to gouge out our eyes with the tax bill and budgets that never seem to balance because of the minority party...same old same old.
Red is Leftist, not blue.

Minnesota Democrats are way too busy trying to pass laws that tax everything imaginable so they don’t have time to go after guns. Once they pass their tax tax tax laws they won’t be around after the next election to go after guns anyway.
Minnesota is purple except for President. We suffer from a wildly dysfunctional state party and lost quite a bit due in part to the weakness of the national ticket last fall.
However, Governor Mark “Jim Beam” Dayton is the first Dem to govern us in 25 years. And he’s reminding one and all why we didn’t elect anyone of his party for the quarter-century preceding.

MN is not only a Blue State, it stupidly elected majority Democrats in both Houses of the Legislature and the Governorship. Mostly via fraud and given cover by our Secretary of State.
But I think even they saw the writing on the wall when we were able to muster thousands of us to show up at rallies and committee meetings to show them HOW opposed we really are.
I was at one of the meetings and two of the rallies, even though I needed to take time off from work to do it. Note: writing emails and sending letters wasn’t enough. We needed to “get in their faces” on this one. “Victory goes to those who show up” has never been proven valid so completely.
Of course, with a budget surplus of $600M they still raised our taxes by $2B in a failing State economy... If they have truly given up on this one, then we need to shift our aim and do something about that.
