North: Being Presidential

WASHINGTON — On April 30, 1789, at Federal Hall in New York, George Washington took the oath of office as the first president of the United States. He and the members of both houses of Congress then assembled in the unfinished Senate chamber, where Washington took less than 20 minutes to deliver the first inaugural address. Precisely 225 years later — at the same time of day — the 44th president of the United States wandered into the Brady Press Briefing Room in the White House for a surreal 48-minute exchange with members of the media.

The difference between those two presidential presentations is stark — and alarming — for what was said, what was left unsaid and the manner in which they were conveyed. Observers described Washington's delivery as "humble," even "anxious." Some — noting more than a dozen references to "prayer," "divine blessing," "providence," the "Almighty Being" and the "Great Author of every public and private good" — said the new president was "reverent." None of those matches the demeanor of Barack Obama during this week's seance. Instead of invoking the favor of God, our head of state sought to fix blame for his failures.

When Washington delivered his address, the most important issue before our legislative branch was the ongoing national debate over the Bill of Rights. He devoted nearly a full page of his eight-page handwritten remarks to "how far an exercise of the occasional power delegated by the Fifth article of the Constitution is rendered expedient at the present juncture." Rather than attack members of Congress who favored or opposed the first 10 amendments to our new Constitution, Washington pledged his "entire confidence" in their "discernment and pursuit of the public good."

Nice little ping you got there, Jaz! Thank you.

Great one, Ollie!

zer0 doesn’t know the meaning of the word, “presidential.”

He’s just a stupid thug.

Sometimes I wonder if they coach him to blame others or if he just embarrassingly thought up that tactic himself.

But it seems that he doesn’t have the brains to be embarrassed.

I agree on Obambi being a stupid thug, there are others flipping his light switch that are his handlers. He most certainly lacks the brains, and I believe soul, to be embarrassed.

I enjoy Ollie’s columns, as well as Thomas Sowell’s, when speak of the turkey in the WH.

North: Being Presidential

The muzzie usurper has NEVER acted "Presidential", like he is emperor, yes. Hell, I'd be happy if the bastard just once acted like an AMERICAN!

And it would be “acting,” for he is not an American, his handlers are the “president,” and he hates white people and Christians with a burning passion.

Except for the presidencies of Coolidge and Reagan, the 20th century was disastrous for the US. The 21st is setting off no better. We cannot sustain American values if we cannot/will not teach them. They have to be handed down, unless we want to learn what we’ve lost through tyranny and slavery, which would take another couple generations to overcome.

Young America has grown up without its history, with levels of affluence, even for the “poor” that are higher than most other countries in the world. They do not realize what life was like when some of us were children. No indoor plumbing, walking miles to either the school or the school bus. College was not accessible to many. Most of our parents had less than a HS education. However, most could read, they paid their taxes, bills,. etc., kept their families clothed and fed.

Today young people care little about the sacrifices made by those who went before them. They do not really understand hardship, nor are they able to deal with it. They don’t understand the sacrifice military families make, or care when they face the ultimate loss of life or limbs, or the mental ability to cope with life. Today’s youth are the tantrum generation, the immediate gratification generation. They have to have their wants NOW or they’re going to make everyone suffer till they get their way. Many of them are the grandchildren of the 60’s left who instilled in their own children a HATE for America that isn’t even rational, and they feel their mission on this earth is to radicalize all youth. There is nothing rational about this hate, based on atheistic ideology, but it is aimed at America BECAUSE we have been blessed by God and they want every vestige of that, every memory of God removed....and let me give you a quick heads up...it won’t be enough then, either! Obama grew up in this and was an avid student of HATE. Even if America was filled with atheists 100%, he would still hate it. It goes to the heart of the matter. His heart hates God. He cannot kill God, but he can make life miserable for those who love Him. But even then, knowing He was still alive, it would not be enough. I don’t say that Obama is the Antichrist, but he is the image of what he will be. Washington loved and revered God. Some of the British got a glimpse of Washington praying on his knees and they had a premonition that God would favor him. Obama sticks his middle finger in God’s face and says, “Who do You think You are?” We’ve come a long way from Washington’s day! Sadly, I’m beginning to think that more than 50% agree with Obama. Among them are FEW who could even tell who Washington was. That says a lot about our future...and it’s not good.
