Al-Assad Crosses the Red Line

President Obama has made a memorable contribution to the annals of worthless diplomatic ultimatums with his infamous “red line” warning to Bashar al-Assad not to use chemical weapons. It would be “totally unacceptable,” a “game-changer,” and bring “consequences.” He said all of this apparently believing he could scare Assad off using such weapons and giving nary a thought to what he would do if Assad defied his threats.

Stop or I’ll say stop again (as long as cameras are rolling).

Al-Assad has crossed the red line.

So Assad thinks he's a tough guy, does he? Let's see how tough he is when he's on the receiving end of one of Barack Obama's strongly worded statements!

"Let the British, French, and Israelis handle it then."

If he planned on handling it then I have no problem with the red line statement. Otherwise, he's making idle threats and that just encourages the bad guys.

Foreign rivals are killing each other? Let them work it out. Our ‘red line’ should be our borders not what happens within some other borders. If some other country feels threatened, let them step up and leave us out of it, we’re broke.

In fact, it kind of surprises me he hasn’t already intervened more openly

No, this one's on the QT, and the Syrian rebels are, as some theorized, the target of the weapon running that is alleged to have been going on through Benghazi. Obama has to have at least plausible deniability because he can't be seen opposing pro-Assad Russia that directly.

Zero will do his SOP...nothing. If the situation resolves itself, he takes credit. If not, it wasn’t HIS fault.
