Oh, I spoke too soon. The SCOTUS has involved itself, and not in a good way. It seems like the June 9th deadline is still in effect, but the Illinois attorney general has an extension to challenge the court order ordering the ruling.
“The U.S. Supreme Court has extended the deadline for Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan to appeal a court ruling requiring the state to legalize concealed carry.
“Madigan now has until June 24 to decide whether to appeal the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruling requiring the state to draft a bill legalizing concealed carry in Illinois by June 9. The Illinois General Assembly has yet to come to a consensus on such a measure.
“Last Friday, Madigan filed an appeal for an extension of the May 23 deadline to appeal, saying that it would allow her to see what kind of concealed carry bill lawmakers come up with by the June 9 deadline. Madigan also argued that the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals failed to consider federal court gun rulings, including a federal appeals court decision last month not to hear an appeal of New Yorks restrictive “May issue law.
“Meanwhile, gun advocates are warning that if lawmakers fail to pass a concealed carry bill by the June 9 deadline, people will be able to carry firearms with next to no limitations because “constitutional carry” would then become law in the state.”
Uh, if you're a "gun advocate" why would you warn anyone of that?? That sounds more like a warning that would be issued by [gun] control-freaks.
Figures. Our lesbian AG strikes again. Doesn't she have another gay pride parade to march in?
