Salon: It’s Conservatives’ Fault if Benghazi Scandal Doesn’t Have Legs. Er … What?

Maybe we can blame SNL parodies, too.Credit: NBCWell, here’s an interesting way to respond to the Benghazi scandal, back in the spotlight again this week as whistle-blowers prepare to testify before Congress that the government always knew the assault on the consulate in Libya was a planned terror attack and not a spontaneous protest in response to an anti-Muslim video posted on YouTube. Alex Seitz-Wald at Salon is pre-blaming conservatives should the scandal fail to take off:

The charges seem potentially damaging and the accusers credible, but those trying to fan flames of scandal have so embarrassed and discredited themselves by pushing bogus story lines on Benghazi that it may be hard for the media and American people to take any new allegations seriously. For instance, the last time we saw a “Benghazi whistle-blower,” it was an anonymous Fox News source, but he seemed to know so little about basic special operations that military analysts called him a clown and an embarrassment.

Okay, that’s one. Any others? It appears not. That’s the only example he gives. I can’t think of any other examples of embarrassing theories put forth seriously, other than, well, the one put out by the State Department.

In the Fast and Furious scandal, analogous in many ways to Benghazi in way it played out in the media, there was real wrongdoing, but conservatives grasped at straws to make wider, unsubstantiated allegations that let the actual problems largely escape notice.

If the three new witnesses don’t get the attention they deserve, Fox News and its ilk deserves much of the blame.

Again, there’s still only one example. We don’t even know how seriously the public is treating this scandal yet, and somehow he’s already blaming Fox News about it. Is the rest of the media not going to cover Benghazi because of something Fox did? That makes no sense. The two likely, actual reasons why the witnesses “don’t get the attention they deserve” will be if: One, other news outlets don’t follow the story, which will reinforce the narrative of the media as the Obama Administration’s protectors; or two, if the general public simply doesn’t care about the scandal as much as people in the media and pundit class wish they did (a very possible outcome).

It takes a bit of nerve to try to somehow spin a possible lack of attention on the Benghazi scandal by other media outlets or the public on the credibility of Fox News.

Are they saying something like it’s the good guys’ fault if the bad guys aren’t prosecuted?

The only thing this scandal is good for is some campaign advertising footage against Hillary Clinton in 2016 when she runs. Other than that, the stonewalling will continue.

They successfully ignored the few people who were trying to get to the bottom of it, whether “it” be Fast and Furious or Benghazi (or the other completely ignored operation running guns to Honduras) and now blame the ones trying to get to the bottom of it for failing to get the attention of the people who continue to studiously ignore them.

I’m predicting to media will hoist some social media rich (this is key) story Wednesday. Likely with a video, maybe violent and possibly provocative...and they will run out the clock on that coverage with endless concerned commentary from lawmakers and endless punditry by commentators.

Call me crazy. Does the media have any credibility left to risk?

CBS went soup to nuts news dump on Benghazi three days ahead of the hearing this Wednesday to soften the blow...in other words, it’s old news now.

QUESTION: What will headline the mainstream media news blitz (Benghazi hearing distraction story) this Wednesday? (It’s coming.)

By late Wednesday the low information voters will say “...what hearings?” => “Did you hear Morgan Freemen came out and is dating Charlie Rose...!?!?!”

It's the Republicans fault for “politicizing” the issue by talking about it, thereby forcing the leftstream media to ignore it.

I agree with him. It will be the GOP’s fault if this doesn’t take off.

I suppose the RINO’s will attempt to appease to get along....or because they are blackmailed.

Close your eyes and imagine if this had been
a GOP president at fault running for election during Benghazi-gate

Doesn't that always hold true. That the good guys keep the bad guys in check? If there are no good guys, there'd only be bad guys.

If the Repubs don't go ballistic and STAND THEIR GROUND and even get 'fist pounding' angry, Wed. Benghazi hearings will be another missed opportunity. The good guys must NOT allow the bad guys to distract, divert, reflect, evade, switch, etc.. I wanna see some fists slammed down upon the tables on Wednesday! HIGH CRIMES including dereliction of duty, negligent homicide, obstruction of justice, perjury (to name a few) WERE COMMITTED FOR THE SAKE OF WINNING AN ELECTION, DAMNIT!!!!

I don't know one person that does not want to know the truth and for it to come to light... and for those involved to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. By the number of dims waking up to the fact that there is a stench of Nixon coming from the White House... and it smells worse than Nixon ever did... and the stench belongs to one of their own and their party. obama and his goons make Nixon and the Watergate clowns look like Choir Boys.

This is a perfect explication:

A Woman in a Hot Air Balloon

A woman in a hot air balloon realized she was lost. She lowered her altitude and spotted a man in a boat below. She shouted to him,

“Excuse me, can you help me? I promised a friend I would meet him an hour ago, but I don’t know where I am.”

The man consulted his portable GPS and replied, “You’re in a hot air balloon, approximately 30 feet above ground elevation of 2,346 feet above sea level. You are at 31 degrees, 14.97 minutes north latitude and 100 degrees, 49.09 minutes west longitude.

She rolled her eyes and said, “You must be a Republican.

“I am,” replied the man. “How did you know?”

“Well,” answered the balloonist, “everything you told me is technically correct. But I have no idea what to do with your information, and I’m still lost. Frankly, you’ve not been much help to me.”

The man smiled and responded, “You must be an Obama-Democrat.”

“I am,” replied the balloonist. “How did you know?”

“Well,” said the man, “you don’t know where you are — or where you are going. You’ve risen to where you are, due to a large quantity of hot air. You made a promise you have no idea how to keep, and you expect me to solve your problem. You’re in exactly the same position you were in before we met, but somehow, now it’s my fault.”

Those of us that lived through Watergate remember that the break in happened during Nixon's first term and it took quite awhile for America to care about it. The media only started covering it fully when the blood was already in the water.

No one can stop what is going to happen with regards to Benghazi. I do not know what that will be but the truth will out and those guilty of crimes will be exposed. From what little I know at this time... I do believe that any aspirations that the canklesaurus might have had on becoming president... well they died in Benghazi... right long with Ambassador Stevens and three American heroes.

So, it turns out the "bogus story lines" are absolutely true...and that somehow discredits the accusers???

Huh???!!!

The liberal intelligentsia has spoken...

Actually it’s pretty much true the idiotic nonsense from conspiracy nutters, Wing Nut Daily, etc. discredits LEGITIMATE attacks on the Obama administration.

An example for Benghazi is people claiming a Carrier Strike Group commander was relieved because he wanted to help the Benghazi facility during the attack.

The only problem with that theory is his carrier was in the Pacific at the time of the attack.

There’s so much inaccurate nonsense that Obama is attacked with, that the many legitimate things he’s attacked with also get thrown into “those right-wing kooks” category.
