~The FReeper Canteen Presents~

Road Trip: Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach, California

Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach is a United States Navy weapons and munitions loading, storage and maintenance facility located in Seal Beach, California with detachments in Concord, Fallbrook, and San Diego, all also in California.

The command exists to provide base operating support to the Navy's ordnance mission. Command and tenant personnel provide munitions receipt, segregation, inspection, maintenance, storage, issue, and assessment services to Navy operating forces and other Department of Defense and homeland security entities. Overall, the command supports the provisioning of missiles, torpedoes, and other ordnance to a majority of the U.S. Pacific Fleet.

NWS Seal Beach occupies 5,256 acres, has 230 buildings and 128 ammunition magazines providing 589,299 feet of ammunition storage space. Ammunition is moved from storage to the docks on 56 miles of railroad line and 80 miles of road. The base owns 130 pieces of railroad rolling stock and 230 trucks and trailers to move the ammunition which is loaded onto ships using six mobile cranes that can lift up to 90 tons.

The Weapons Station is also home to the West Coast site of the World War II Submarine Memorial. The Memorial is dedicated to the over 3000 submariners who lost their lives in United States submarines in the 52 submarines lost during WWII. There are also plaques dedicated to those who lost their lives in submarine accidents during the Cold War. The Memorial is located outside the main entrance to the Weapons Station on Seal Beach Boulevard and is accessible to the public.

Evening, Lauren (& Kathy). I used to live in Los Angeles — and remembering visiting Seal Beach. Lovely area.

I know you must have made it home....I had to lie down. I took a benadryl because I thought it would help this blasted itching...but all it did was make me sleeeeeepy! LOL!

I guess it’s better. Still a ways to go, darn it!

Hi Kathy ((hugs))
Seal Beach is an amazing facility. I have been there several times. They are the Navy’s Depot Level Maintenance Facility (DLMF) for Standard missile and Tomahawk missiles. They refurbish missiles for the U.S. and our foreign partners.

Good evening, Connie, and thank you for the red, white, and blue Tribute To Our Troops. *HUGS*

Did your Monday go well? No ducks in the pool? Easy commute?

We are fighting Canadian geese....after years they have found our yard. We can’t feed ducks if geese are here. I need a pile of rocks to throw at them. They are messy, loud, and landing on the roof.

Good evening, Mooch...you sure did move a long ways away.

I sure am glad you aren’t in Los Angeles anymore....I hear it’s very unsafe these days.

Are you having nice spring weather? It snowed here Saturday, but has all melted now.

He told me when I first went in that it “usually” lasts 2-4 weeks. It’s been nearly 3 weeks and I still have quite a bit of discomfort. I talked to a friend at church yesterday morning who had it on her ribs and she said hers lasted 5 weeks. I’ll be in the funny farm by then! LOL!

I really wanted to be back at work by this coming week, but we’ll see what happens. Can’t go all drugged up. It’s a 20-mile drive. eee!
