In less than two decades, the gun murder rate has been nearly cut in half. Other gun crimes fell even more sharply, paralleling a broader drop in violent crimes committed with or without guns.
The number of gun killings dropped 39% between 1993 and 2011, the Bureau of Justice Statistics reported in a separate report released Tuesday. Gun crimes that weren’t fatal fell by 69%.
Despite the remarkable drop in gun crime, only 12% of Americans surveyed said gun crime had declined compared with two decades ago, according to Pew, which surveyed more than 900 adults this spring. Twenty-six percent said it had stayed the same, and 56% thought it had increased.

When will Americans learn?
If a crime is prevented because of a gun, it does not enter into the statistics. Prevention of crimes with guns has become so significant, that many armed criminals are using “cheap shot” attacks, and “initiate robbery by firing gun at victim”, robberies.
That is, they are no longer assuming that their potential victim is unarmed, so want to disable or even kill them before they could defend themselves. This means they accept far more severe punishment if caught, for robbery and attempted murder, or murder; rather than just robbery alone.
The alternative is to risk being killed themselves. This changes the whole equation.
When you figure in the ratio of guns purchased over the last 20 years to the number of “gun crimes” committed the number is even lower.
The leftists in Big Media and Big Government have been lying to people for so long that they believe truth is falsehood, and falsehood is truth.

The period of time in the study correlates closely with the adoption of ccw by the majority of the states (45?). It is really remarkable how ccws have cooled things off.

Perhaps victims shoudkl do the same- jjst assume someoen with a gun IS goign to use it, and shoot first before perp gets a chance to even open their worthless mouth
Americans think that gun crime is up because the corrupt media, including Obama guard dog Fx News, misleads Americans to think that way to promote 2nd Amendment-ignoring gun legislation imo.
