Now China Says It May Own Okinawa, Too

Agence France Presse
May 8, 2013

US Sale Of Armed Drones To Japan And South Korea Would Transform Tensions In The Pacific China's top newspaper on Wednesday published a call for a review of Japan's sovereignty over the island of Okinawa -- home to major US bases -- with the Asian powers already embroiled in a territorial row.

The lengthy article in the People's Daily, China's most-circulated newspaper and the mouthpiece of the ruling Communist party, argued that the country may have rights to the Ryukyu chain, which includes Okinawa.

The island is home to major US air force and marine bases as well as 1.3 million people, who are considered more closely related to Japan in ethnic and linguistic terms than to China.

The authors of the article, two scholars at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, considered China's top state-run think-tank, said the Ryukyus were a "vassal state" of China before Japan annexed the islands in the late 1800s.

"Unresolved problems relating to the Ryukyu Islands have reached the time for reconsideration," wrote Zhang Haipeng and Li Guoqiang, citing post-World War II declarations that required Japan to return Chinese territory.

The article also repeated Chinese government arguments for China's historical claims over a set of tiny uninhabited islets in the East China Sea known as Diaoyu in Chinese and Senkaku in Japanese.

The two nations have stepped up a war of words over the dispute in recent months, with Beijing's vessels regularly entering the waters around the Tokyo-controlled islands, stoking fears of armed conflict.

China is growing quickly, right in front of our eyes.

Yet we continue to help them grow.

China now exports more than America.

Yet we continue to help them grow.

The next time you shop for (anything) stop for a moment and ask, where was this (whatever) made.

Very likely it was made in China. Republicans and Democrats have both sent AMERICAN jobs to China now for several decades.

Well that is causing China to become very, very strong.

Bring back American jobs now. And do something about our international taxation laws please.

It should not be cheaper to export an American job, than to buy something made in America.

Buy American.

Actually it belongs to us but who gives a damn.
Paid for with American lives.
What difference does it make?

Sounds like China would prefer to deal with a nuclear-armed Japan (as opposed to a nuclear-within-a-month-has-all-the-knowledge_but-no-arsenal Japan).

I don’t think so either. China is operating like nobama, threaten and make big trial balloon assertions more for intimidation and to get a settlement on some other theft (the other claimed island).

China has just as much a right to the Ryukyus as England has a right to Normandy and the Aquitaine.

Good thing we let Bubba get off scott free for spoon feeding them reliable rocket technology, and letting them buy an aircraft carrier. It sure is one fine casino.

My uncle took a little stroll across Okinawa once.
As far as I’m concerned the Marines own this island.

A basic Toyoda has more high tech than a nuke.
Also the Japanese have >9 tons of plutonium in stock.
And just for fun they want to reopen their reprocessing plant.

Has China officially claimed that little 10-mile X 10-mile diamond-shaped chunk of swamp along the Potomac yet?

Okinawa is part of Maine. Several members of my VFW claimed it for us during WWII.

It looks as if the CHICOM and The Albanians want to divide the world between them! Apparently the theory is that anywhere there once was a Chinese Laundry, or an Albanian Brothel, is their sovereign territory.

Leaves precious little of the planet for anyone else.

They don’t have to. We already know they own it.

I think it’s high time the Japanese started having their own aircraft carriers again. They can do what the IJN did with it’s early battleships: adopt Brit designs (so build variants if the QE/PoW class, preferably with the cat/arrestor gear configuration).

They can top them off with the names Akagi and Kaga.

And then sit back and let the ChiComs freak.

Opening our markets to Chinese made goods is the biggest mistake the West has ever made and eventually....soon,in fact....will result in world upheaval of unimagined proportions.

Bad upheavals.
