The Difference between Mark Sanford and Bill Clinton
American Thinker ^ | 05/09/2013 | Selwyn Duke

Posted on 05/09/2013 9:38:07 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

With the victory of disgraced former governor Mark Sanford in the recent South Carolina congressional race, there are bound to be those who would equate his supporters with Bill Clinton's. After all, both men were unfaithful to their wives.

Both men lied to their constituents about it. And both men had supporters who voted party over principle, didn't they? Not exactly.

For sure, there are Republicans imbued with the libertine spirit of the age who, often sexually compromised themselves, can easily justify Sanford's behavior. There are Republicans who buy into the tripe that a politician's "personal life" should have no bearing on his fitness for office, as if the personal doesn't influence the public.

There are even more Republicans who rationalize their vote by saying that Sanford has confessed his sin and must be forgiven, ignoring that we don't know if he truly is a changed man and that forgiveness doesn't obviate worldly consequences. Yet there are many other GOP voters -- and they may be in the majority -- who take another position. And it's one that well illustrates a profound difference between liberals and conservatives.

I supported Mark Sanford against his opponent, Elizabeth Colbert Busch, with no regrets or apologies. Why? Well, I think I speak for millions of conservatives when I say that what cost Sanford his governorship was absolutely wrong and not to be excused under any circumstances. I would prefer that candidates such as him get primaried out of the equation (and that Sanford wasn't is a different matter), but this didn't happen. And while what he did was a sin, there are other kinds of sins as well. One of them is advocating nation and culture-killing leftist policy.

FROM THE AUTHOR:

Bill Clinton’s voters were generally different. Far from hating the sin and supporting the sinner, too frequently these ideologists became apologists and promoted the sinner by rubber stamping the sin. How often did we have to hear nauseating refrains such as “It’s only sex” or “Who cares if he got a _______ in the Oval Office?”? Why, one liberal man even said to me, quite passionately, about Slick Willie’s affair with Monica Lewinsky, “He did the right thing” (hey, who wouldn’t abuse his position and debauch a young intern if given the chance?). And then, of course, there was the truly idiotic rationalization “Character doesn’t matter,” which, of course, may seem an attractive philosophy when you haven’t got any.

My take on the Sanford/Clinton comparison is that Sanford, rightly or wrongly, determined his marital status quo was untenable. He stood for and took the consequences, and his new, life partner, apparently STILL is with him.

For Clinton? It is/was never more than a piece of a$$ or a bl@w job. Even still, despite the overwhelming evidence, his ‘wife’ inexplicably remains married to him.

It's called ‘money and power’. I'd blow chunks if someone showed me proof those two Arkansas hustlers have even seen each other naked in the past 20-25 years.

Sanford was a good Governor and Congressman who did something wrong.

Clinton was a horrible President who let Bin Laden off the hook, hiked taxes, tried to socialize medicine 15 years before Obama did, committed perjury and he’s a rapist to boot.

1. Did Sanford LIE under Oath?

2. Is Sanford's Mistress / Fiancee a Government Intern that worked for Sanford at the time?

3. Does Sanford smoke Cigars that can be used as Dildos?

Not a big Sanford fan, but compared to Clinton he is a Piker.

There is no problem with American Politics.

Bill Clinton was not elected after his action.

Mark was elected not because of some kind of sympathy or something. He was running against a Democrat that did not get more votes.

Even a tail chaser is better than a liberal.

Mr. Duke has analyzed the situation correctly.

My wife can’t get past Mr. Sanford’s infidelity, but I told her that Colbert Busch was the far greater threat.

Mark Sanford’s ex-wife is not only better looking but also more intelligent and refused to keep being humiliated the way Hillary is by Bill Clinton.

Another difference: Sanford used a picture of Nancy Pelosi to get elected.

He carried around a picture of Nancy Pelosi reminding the conservative folks of South Carolina who the Democrat would support if elected.

It apparently was effective...

Has your wife gotten over David, in the Bible, committing adultery?

Maybe the former Mrs.Stanford wasn’t very “affectionate.”

My only real problem with Sanford is using taxpayer funds to go to Argentina which he sorta paid back with his ethics charges he was fined and leaving SC without telling anyone other than that he votes pretty good.

Sanford’s bizarre disappearance can’t be dismissed by pretending that it is merely a sex scandal.

Sanford supporters in this race said Sanford was OK because he had paid a $74,000 ethics fine and we must forgive him.

Now, the people advocating legalizing the illegal aliens in the country have a good argument the illegals aren't getting off free because they will pay a fine that will make up for illegally coming here. A dangerous precedent has been set.
