I think Weiner’s district is gone; I thought it was lost at the same time as Rothman’s in NJ. In the dying states of the northeast, lost electoral votes means lost house seats.

Wikipedia says the name was pronounced in the English way, but their father, James William Colbert, Jr., wanted to change it to the French pronunciation, but didn't out of respect for his own father, James Sr. So he left it up to the children to choose their own pronunciation.
This is one of those times when the Wikipedia explanation sounds a little fishy. Or maybe the family is a little fishy.
In the absence of other evidence I’m going to guess the family is fishy. And to me it’s not super surprising that a guy who’s schtick is to parody a conservative would go for the Frenchified version. It would interesting to get inside his head and see what animated that decision.

I used to take comfort in that, until those states themselves are entering the toss-up column. It is a demographic nightmare, and we don’t have to wait until 2050 to watch it unfold.
