Prince Harry Honours US War Dead At Arlington

Prince Harry has laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery on the latest leg of his US tour. The Prince, who has served twice in Afghanistan, was taken around some of the cemetery's 70 sections where military casualties from the US civil war to Afghanistan are buried. He also placed a wreath with a personal note next to the gravestone of Michael L Stansberry Jr, who died in July 2010. Dressed in the uniform of the Blues and Royals, it appeared a sombre and poignant moment for the Apache co-pilot gunner, acutely aware of the sacrifices made in battle. Sky's Royal Commentator Alastair Bruce said: "He knows the nature of how death can impact upon military life while in combat, and how important it is for a nation to mark and respect those that put their lives in danger on behalf of the nation's national interest. "In Arlington, the United States demonstrates exactly that. "Since it started its global war on terror, there have been an enormous number of funerals there, and so many of them associated with the battles that Prince Harry's friends have been involved with too."

Sorry, but I'm not tracking. Prince Harry is a major supporter of Walking With The Wounded, Britain's version of the Wounded Warrior Program. Part of the reason he was here in the States was to promote a competition between teams from the WWTW and the WWP.

He has seen the elephant and knows what it is like to face death. He stopped by Arlington to pay his respects to our servicemen and women who have fallen in combat. Personally, I believe that this gesture is far more genuine than anything our cic could ever do with the military.

If this was Obama standing by the Benghazi coffins I would agree with you.

But Harry has served/is serving on the front line. In the early years of Afghanistan his finger was on the trigger all the time. He’s lost friends, and he knew the guy who’s grave he’s standing at.

And even if he didn’t know them, and didn’t serve, it would be good. He’s not John Kerry. He’s not Justin Beiber.

He’s in line of succession to Head of State of a strategic ally and his honoring of the dead is just the latest of many eloquent restatements of the shared sacrifices of our two countries.

Your anger is very badly misplaced.

Irrational contempt for a foreign dignitary who is a combat vet honoring American war dead.

That is major.

Rembering fellow veterans who died in combat is not a “PR Stunt”.

My buddies are buried there, and they could not give a flyin’ f, about some brit royal giving them some kind of phony respect. A pampered supposed “combat vet”, can kiss my azz. How many good men died, providing him “air space?”

One thing can be said of the royal family is that they all served with dignity and honor, even their grandmother, the queen. Charles made a bit of a mess of his personal life but at least he raised two sons that serve with pride and he served himself with honor. They bring credit to their family and country.

We have Zero and Clinton. At least we had Reagan, Bush Sr and Jr to help balance them with three people who served with honor.

Perhaps, my respect is twisted, to you. So what. No reason for you to worry about anything important to me. Are we good now?

“Why in hell is he here, dosing flowers on Our Soldiers.”

Why the Hell not? England was once an enemy but hasn’t been for 200 years. Besides, if I my enemies honor my war dead then I have conquered our differences. I am proud to have such a soldier as those in the royal family honor our dead as we served side by side, and we should honor theirs.

“I have a problem with a pr stunt, over the remains of Our Fallen.”

What is PR about this? It happens frequently and not as a PR stunt. If England wanted to send an envoy for this then Prince Harry is an excellent choice as he is both an active duty officer and a member of the British royal family, both are excellent qualifications to represent their country.

Bitter much? Prince Harry has done two tours in a combat zone and has had plenty of lead sent in his direction. Whether you like his politics or not, at least respect him for putting his life on the line.

His first tour (as a forward air controller) was completely off the radar, until it was leaked in the media, forcing the British military to pull him out because of the increased danger this was presenting to his fellow soldiers. The second time over there, he was the gunner/co-pilot of an Apache and saw plenty of combat in Helmand Province.

Your ignorance of Harry and this event is astounding. Your disrespect to our fallen veterans is even more disturbing.

Say what you will...Even though Harry..and probably Will, had one or more youthful discretions, I really LIKE the young Royals. Will, Kate and Harry are (I hope) the face of the future. Their mother would be proud.

Thank you, Prince Harry.

During WW2, the German military allowed the caretakers at the US military cemeteries in France to remain at their posts, even after war was declared between our nations. There are some things that transcend borders.

Yes, I have a problem with a pr stunt, over the remains of Our Fallen.

How is this a pr stunt? Harry has no need of money and nothing to gain over this action. You are reading things into this article that just aren't there. The man is a captain and has served alongside our troops; and Britain has been our country's ally ever since 1813 or so. Why spit in his eye?

You are off your head.

You’ve decided to double down on your bizarre rant.

What’s more - and this is horrific - you’re now trying to use some friends buried in Arlington as human shields to cover your ill-advised attack.

Harry’s there to honor the dead. You have some demented issue with that. That’s on you.
