Secretary of State John Kerry called Friday for greater efforts to "unfreeze" decades of tense stalemate between Greece and Turkey over Cyprus, after meeting here with the foreign minister of the divided Mediterranean island.

"The United States supports a bi-zonal, bicommunal federation. We would like to see us unfreeze this conflict and be able to move to a resolution," Kerry told reporters after meeting here with his Cypriot counterpart Ioannis Kasoulides.

"We also look forward to working with the foreign minister, and with President (Nicos) Anastasiades and others to try to move Cyprus forward on one of the world's frozen conflicts," the top US diplomat said.

Kerry said he already has broached the subject of talks to break the stalemate "several times" with Turkey's Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and Greece's Foreign Minister Dimitris Avramopoulos, as well as with the Cypriot president.

Remarks With Cypriot Foreign Minister Ioannis Kasoulides Before Their Meeting

Remarks
John Kerry
Secretary of State
Treaty Room
Washington, DC
May 10, 2013

FOREIGN MINISTER KASOULIDES: "It’s an open wound and it’s bleeding to have to have one’s country divided. Of course, we would like to deal with the issues of the economy and the issues of the natural gas as three separate issues. If the ones reinforces the other, it’s through these parallel three roles. But we will discuss these things in the meeting."

It ain’t broke. Why “fix” it.

I remember when Cyprus had a shooting war going on. It has been quiet for years.

Looks like the Hussein regime is looking for another opportunity to push the Muslim Brotherhood into power.

The Obama Administration goes into heat when
they imagine a new country ripe for an
Obama/DNC/Ayers/Dorhn/CODEPINK-incurred Arab Spring.

Why stop at bi-zonal and bi-communal? Why not go all out and over-the-top to bisexual?

Then we can send in the so-called "Human" Rights Campaign to oversee the trans-
ition.

Let me guess: he wants the Greeks to cede it to Turkey in exchange for a US taxpayer bailout.

Just brilliant.

That would be so wrong that I could believe Hussein would try it.

FAIL.

Y’know, ya gotta admire how a political newcomer like Zero has been able to drive a goodly number of mainstream Demwits into retirement in just a four years, and disembowel the political futures of Kerry (in a few months) and Clinton (beginning with coopting her into the SD job), in order to clear the way for a dynasty, probably beginning with Moochelle.
