I thought this was a story about American Airlines and fags.
As a frequent flyer,
I’ve seen way more of that than I ever wanted to see,
Some may have been gay, and that’s fine I never knew it. But the swish-lyric talking, color coordinated queens really make the trip miserable.
Oh, crap I have another trip to make next week;-(

Read the AA Big Book and see how many of the female subjects “discovered” they were homosexual after they became sober.

“Currently gay meetings are held separate from the main group. Their meetings are identified as gay meetings and often times closed to others. There are Christian meetings as well.”

“If AA excluded gays, half the membership would drop out and no one would be helped. I’ve known so many gay men in NYC and those that survived the AIDS crisis, sobered up with AA.
I understand the context of your post, but it would be even worse than that - if AA excluded ANYONE, as a group, AA would dissolve and nobody would be helped.”

I don’t see half the membership dropping out because homosexuals are excluding heteros from their meetings.

There are MANY gay AA meetings. Not many Christians ones. I once tried to start a Christian AA meeting in the Inland Empire of Southern California, and was told “we dont want Christ mentioned at meetings”. They wouldn’t allow the meeting to be published in the directory.

AA is based on Biblical and Christian Principles - if individual groups decide to exclude such, I doubt the groups will do much good. I have had folks gripe about my using Jesus' name in a meeting - I told them that He is my higher power and I'll describe Him as such. I also use dthe opportunity to let them know that the Lord's Prayer that closes most AA meetings started when some men said, "Master, teach us to pray as you do" and He told them, "When you do it, do it like this - Our Father, which art in Heaven...". It caused a few extra "moments of silence". They will only chase God out if the rest allow it - folks with experience and grounding should find it incumbent on themselves to lovingly (I stress the word "lovingly") explain things in terms that helps make it clear.

Perhaps you actually tried to convert an existing AA house to go the Christian theme - if you want to start a Christian meeting, do it the old-fashioned way and start small and if it grows, make your own arrangements to provide a meeting place and a coffee pot. I prefer to inhabit meetings where all the sinners are welcome because they provide a window into my own imperfect existence and give me opportunities to spread the Word to those who need to hear it - not just to those who already believe. I find it selfish and self-centered (recognize the phrase?) to try to mold something to suit yourself at the exclusion of possibly doing good for others. Next thing you might want to have a meeting that only allows folks with 5 years or more so they can pat each other on the back.

A note of thanks to you and your many ‘friends.’

I had a young man in my employ who was among the best, very sharp, personable, hard worker... He also had a problem.

A co worker handed me a large gold coin and said nineteen years clean and sober! He said he noticed a problem and ask if he could speak with T. They went to lunch a few times and would talk.

T moved on to another project and one day sadly fell off the earth. Did not come to work or answer the phone, he also had a wife and young son.

I have ask many of his work friends, the answer is the same, no one has heard from him and they think he is dead.

The offer to help T, a stranger, was a great act of kindness.

Thank You

AA WAS based on Biblical and Christian but modern AA has gotten pretty far away from that. Clarence Snyder, an early AA Christian (Home Brewmeister) story was thrown out of the Fourth Edition of the Big Book “(despite having been in the first three editions) and the story of an unrepentant homosexual put in (Tightrope).

And no I didn't try “ Perhaps you actually tried to convert an existing AA house to go the Christian theme “ It was a new meeting where talk of Jesus Christ was allowed and encouraged. That meeting was not allowed to be listed in the AA directory. Here is a direct quote from the Inland Empire AA office : “We dont want meetings where Christ is mentioned”

Dude - you must be a true zealot to make such a leap as to say they are being pro-homosexual. The know the barriers that can keep people from seeking out the help they need and, in true AA form are trying to help break down the barriers. Talking to you reminds me of a story where a guy moves to a new town that contains a church with so many rules that he cannot attain membership. he is praying and lamenting about it when God speaks to him and asks what the problem is. he explains how he cannot get into the church and asks what he should do. God tells him, "Don't let your heart be troubled; they won't let Me in either".

Your apparent crusade appears to have no positive endgame - of what value is it?

Are there smoking and non-smoking meetings?

For the first 25 years of AA there were no Gay and Lesbian meetings and it got along just fine. It was only with the advent of the homosexual activists in the early 1970’s that AA began to change.

If you think that gay Alcoholics are being are being helped by attending meetings which say their homosexuality is ok, I beg to differ.

The purpose of the 12 steps is to have a Spiritual Awakening. Dude, are you so lost that you think homosexuality is Spiritual?

Right on! Homosexuality is one hell-of-a bad habit. It is a mental trap hell-bent on destruction... NOTHING good will ever come from sick folks that deny they are created in the image of God, their Creator.

“They could destroy AA as easily as they have destroyed other institutions such as the Catholic Church, marriage and soon the Boy Scouts.”

Injured other institutions. The Catholic Church isn’t destroyed, and nothing can destroy marriage no matter what impossibility the state recognizes as marriage. The state doesn’t define marriage.

Yup.

That’s why Celebrate Recovery is catching on. Basically, the 12 steps with a focus on Christ as God.

Alcoholics Anonymous is an organization with Christian roots and like some churches has embraced the homosexual lifestye (although some modern AA's deny it).

Well, if a homo has a drinking problem, should AA turn him away?

Prior to AA allowing Gays having their own AA meetings, there were meetings called Älcholics Together”. They were for homosexual who wanted to give up drinking, but didn’t want to give up their sinful lifestyle.

AA should stop allowing Gay and Lesbian meetings in violation of their own traditions. But it wont happen because so many AA’s are lost, confused, and corrupt. AA was not supposed to oppose or support any causes. In fact, it has embraced the radical homosexual agenda to get homosexuality accepted.

There is a whole history behind it that I wont get into now.

AA was once based on Christian Principles but no more. AA has lost its way.

No, I never said that.

But it shouldn’t encourage the homosexual lifestyle, and it does thru its many pro homosexual gay and lesbian meetings.

As far as I know, there is not even one AA meeting of reformed homosexuals. I don’t think it would be allowed in most areas.

By the end of the day your resentment-fueled thread will be deservedly forgotten and AA will still be carrying on toward its 79th year.

The only requirement for AA membership is a desire to stop drinking
