A gun registry bill for felons has just been signed into law by Washington Gov. Jay Inslee. It's the only gun control bill to make it through the state's legislative session.

The bill will require the Washington State Patrol to maintain a felony firearm conviction database and will help officers know when making a traffic stop if the registered owner is a felon and precluded from having a firearm.

If you listen to dispatchers, they say,”convicted felon”,officers know what that means.

the criminal code criminalizes all acts

since all citizens are then felons.

then all citizens are in the no own database.

So did I. I thought that after ‘running’ a DL during a traffic stop that any felon info on the record, (if any), would show up as one of the very first items an officer should know about.

Every time I see one of these articles the first thing that pops into my head when they state the highway patrol will maintain this database, is when a felon's civil rights have been restored who makes sure the name is taken off the data base?

...if the registered owner is a felon and precluded from having a firearm.

Keeps felons from voting too?

***A gun registry bill for felons***

Isn’t this a violation of a USCOTUS decision that criminals did not have to register their firearms because it violated their 5th Amendment rights?

Do they know the nature of the felony (physical/theft/etc.)?
