Some colleges in Pennsylvania allow students to carry guns

Students at some colleges in the US state of Pennsylvania have been allowed to take guns with them on campus.

At least five Pennsylvania state-owned universities now consent to firearms on campus following a conclusion by the state lawyers that a complete ban on weapons was probably unlawful.

Students in Kutztown, Shippensburg, Edinboro, Slippery Rock and Millersville universities are now allowed to have weapons on campus.

Under the new policy, students holding permits can bring their weapons onto campus, but not school buildings and athletic events.

Some movement in the right direction. We need to work towards Constitutional carry in PA for adults 18 years old and older. No free zones.

So nice of them to “allow” them their basic rights. Sigh. Well, it *is* a step in the right direction.

My father attended Penn State in a different era. He tromped into class one Monday morning in December after having been in the woods all weekend during deer season. He unslung his rifle, unloaded it and put it in the corner. Not one student panicked, the professor asked him if he got anything life went on.

Even as a freshman in college not so long ago we were permitted to have firearms in our dorm as long as they were stored in the RA’s room/suite under lock and key. Trust me, those poor guys had full time firearm storage jobs come November in Pennsylvania.

So-— no weapons in the dorms or athletic activities? That’s where the bad guys will go.

I went to a state college in Pa during the early 80’s. There were guns in the dorm rooms. I don’t recall any guns needing to be checked with RAs. I was unphased, and I do not recall anyone having a problem with it.

Rules about firearms on campus aren’t really rules. They are more like guidelines.

An uber liberal relative who went to a State School in the Berkshires in the People Republik of Taxachuetts also allowed this in the Early 80's as some students would hunt in the early afternoon till dusk for deer. It was the reason they chose that school !!!!
