These are some of the most articulate if not the top of the articulate class of clear conservative Americans that are alive today and they are Black. Their principled moral clarity is unequaled. They need to be in high office, they need to be part of a conservative takeover of the RNC, they need to be held up in the public eye frequently as the black conservative alternative to Obama and his followers.
The conflict is not about color, it's about faith and allegiance to God and Country:

Black conservative leaders discuss how the NRA was created to protect freed slaves [Short Video]

why is it that the Republicans never tell this story?
I'd take the story with a grain of salt. The NRA was set up by old Union Army Generals to promoted marksmaship. In the 1870s and 1880s it was basically a rifle range on Long Island. They may have been welcoming to blacks looking for some rifle training but the idea that they were actively down South running counter ops against the Klan sound like a stretch.
According to the NRA’s own Web site:
Dismayed by the lack of marksmanship shown by their troops, Union veterans Col. William C. Church and Gen. George Wingate formed the National Rifle Association in 1871. The primary goal of the association would be to “promote and encourage rifle shooting on a scientific basis,” according to a magazine editorial written by Church.
After being granted a charter by the state of New York on November 17, 1871, the NRA was founded. Civil War Gen. Ambrose Burnside, who was also the former governor of Rhode Island and a U.S. senator, became the fledgling NRA’s first president.

This is the history of the organization that has been told for as long as I have been a member (almost 30 years).
Ironic thar the NRA was created to protect the rights of Black slaves and has ended up protecting the rights of White slaves.
