ALBANY - State police have charged a 31-year-old Dutchess County driver with a misdemeanor after he was pulled over and found with two more bullets in his handgun magazine than allowed under New York's new gun control law.

I got pulled for having my license plate light out in Texas a couple of years ago. Handed the trooper my license and registration, he flashed his light around my minivan for a few seconds, wrote me a warning ticket and sent me on my way. It was at a ‘trap’ with multiple police cars pulling people for whatever excuse they could come up with. They were right - my light was out, and I fixed it when I got home. I found the trooper quite polite and professional - but I was a middle-aged white guy in an old minivan with my wife.
I've a Greek friend....and he wonders all the time...why we are going down the same road his country has gone down...........
I have not been pulled over in a long long time but I do know that they will observe the interior of your car for suspicious items. It seems to me that if they want to find some pretense to go further they will. Especially the state troopers.
As far as firearms go I do not have a carry permit. They are not easy to get. I have not needed one. When I travel to my friends house to use my shotgun I keep it in the trunk with the shells in the car.
I live in westen N.J. & we are different from the rest of the state. We have a gun culture here & local police do not bother us. We shoot on my friends property. Noone bothers us
because gunfire is a common occurance.
Gregory Dean charged. David Gregory not charged.
Observing the interior is fine under current law, although I think it can also be abused. My question had to do with what the requirements are for someone who has a gun somewhere that is not visible who gets pulled over for a minor traffic infraction. Do they have to disclose the gun if asked? If not, do they refuse to speak, and then the cop gets pissed and hassles you even more? If you do tell them you have one, does the traffic stop allow them to check it out?
I am sorry but I do not have enough knowledge of the law to give you an answer. I do know that if I did have a gun & was stopped I would tell the cop. They would get very pissed & would hassle you if they found it. Especially the Troopers. There have been quite a number of them killed by illegal guns & therefore they are very testy.
Sorry I don’t have a better answer.
