I saw a report on terrorism that poisoning a water supply was next to impossible. You would need TRUCKLOAD after truckload of poison otherwise it would get diluted beyond being effective.

Makes sense to me. But they claimed to be chemical engineers. You have to be pretty bright to be a ChemE.

Maybe they have something biological in mind.

Quite true. However, a terrorist could dump in some low level radioactive waste and then publicize it. Technically, it wouldn't hurt anyone to drink the "radioactive" water, but who would. The terrorists would have then succeeded in cutting off the water supply for 3 million or so people.

...and the cops let them go. Brilliant! *sheesh* I'm betting these terrorists leave the country or don't appear for their hearing.

Shhh! Be vewy, vewy, quiet! Our government is busy hunting for the phantom "tea party terrorists" and can't be bothered with worrying about actual terrorists.

That would be for direct acting poison. What about bio-hazards, prions, and who knows what else inventive, malevolent minds could introduce that would replicate in the water?

True...poisoning the water supply is near impossible without a truckload of stuff. The massive underground aqueducts that pass through Framingham MA contain the water from the Quabbin reservoir heading to Boston. They are huge earth and grass covered 6 foot diameter metal pipes and now look like old rail bed right of ways. You can drive on top of them. They are beautiful greenways and are used by the locals for running and walking the dogs even thought they have been posted as ‘no trespassing’ for years. Some are now open to public use. They cross many roads and on many intersections they have removed the low hurricane fences and replaced them with massive metal pipe truck gates. I agree with the poster who suggested a probe of defenses.

here is a google map of an area on the Framingham Wayland Sudbury border showing the greenway and pipe crossing the Sudbury River at center. Zoom in to see pipe. Zoom out to see many road crossings.

All you need to do is taint it in some small way and terror results. Voila. Mission accomplished.

A biological attack could flourish in a drinking supply. It can be engineered to do so.

but if you explored the dam and the intake areas for water supply, you could concentrate it very easily.................

Poison, yes, truckloads, but bacteria and viruses multiply.

Depends on what you poison it with.

Something biological replicates.

Depends upon the chemistry.
