Most of the alleged 20% of the American people whom Matthews tars as white racists would have voted for Herman Cain for president (or another black conservative) in a heartbeat had he been the GOP nominee vs. Obama. With the large majority of anti-Obama voters, it's not the fact that he's black that's the issue; it's the fact that he's RED (and probably not even an American citizen, let alone a natural born citizen)!!!

It's Matthews and his ilk who are the first to call "Birthers" racists as well. Really? Does any "birther" in his right mind question that Herman Cain is constitutionally qualified to be POTUS? Or claim that Sharpton himself isn't constitutionally qualified? No, Chris, questioning Obama's credentials is a matter of adherence to the supreme law of the land, and applying it to all individuals regardless of skin color!!!

Of course, being on Sharpton's show, Matthews couldn't resist letting the world know that he himself is a racist by concocting this charge. It's just a convenient but foolish way to defend Obama against his adversaries when just about all else fails.

I agree with you. The reason we can take on Obama is we see him as the President of the United States - and a man smart enough to get to that office.

I marched with Dr. Martin Luther King in Boston when I was barely 15 years old, and have worked against racism for 45 YEARS.

Can Matthews say the same?

BTW, I loathe Obama, and actively campaigned for Herman Cain and Lt. Col. Congr. Allen West.

But somehow, because I judge people not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character, that makes me a “raciss”.
