He was trying to get out of the Army. In today’s army, he’d probably be rapidly promoted Klinger's character wasn't trying to be gay. His character was trying to be nuts. One episode they offered him an out on being gay and he refused and got mad. Remember he also tried to eat a Jeep. LOL
