Yep

RCMP: Alleged terror plot in Canada backed by al Qaeda; 2 arrested

"CTV’s Ottawa Bureau Chief Robert Fife reported earlier Monday that the Amtrak train the suspects were targeting would have been travelling on a track linking New York and Toronto, and the attack would have occurred on the Canadian side of the border."

Then again, trains do sometimes derail.

Thanks. I appreciate the insight. I don’t know the area, but others here will appreciate your pinning it down.

Imagine how many people could have been killed if these trains had been going at full speed, 90 miles per hour.

I can. I lived in Baltimore when this happened.

If we cannot do conventional rail safely, what is going to happen when these things are going 220 miles per hour? And if terrorists want a target rich method to cause havoc, derail some trains.

I'm sure Big Sis will sic TSA on Amtrak and have them checking all the nuns and elderly in wheelchairs before you can say "I Won".

that run from New Haven to NYC is about 90 miles
It also has about 35 stops until it gets there
you can see cars on the highway sometimes, going no faster than the train

Typically the way it works the trains run a certain amount of stops then run express the rest of the way. For instance from New Haven to NYC you make local stops 'till say Norwalk then express (non-stop) beyond. The evening compute is reversed ... non-stop to Nowwalk from NYC local beyond. Going back a few years when I lived in CT I commuted into NYC from Fairfield & Westport frequently.

I’m a Danburian of yesteryear. One of my pals rides that train, his good fortune caused him to drive to work, today.
