CNN Poll: Have new controversies hurt Obama? Has GOP overreacted?
CNN ^ | May 19, 2013

Washington (CNN) – President Barack Obama comes out of what was arguably the worst week of his presidency with his approval rating holding steady, according to a new national poll.

But a CNN/ORC International survey released Sunday morning also indicates that congressional Republicans are not overplaying their hand when it comes to their reaction to the three controversies that have consumed the nation's capital over the past week and a half. And the poll finds that a majority of Americans take all three issues seriously.

According to the survey, which was conducted Friday and Saturday, 53% of Americans say they approve of the job the president is doing, with 45% saying they disapprove. The president's approval rating was at 51% in CNN's last poll, which was conducted in early April.

"That two-point difference is well within the poll's sampling error, so it is a mistake to characterize it as a gain for the president," says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland. "Nonetheless, an approval rating that has not dropped and remains over 50% will probably be taken as good news by Democrats after the events of the last week."

The CNN poll is in-line with Gallup, which also indicated a very slight rise in Obama's approval rating over the same time period. And Gallup's daily tracking poll also indicated a slight upward movement of Obama's approval rating over the past week. But as with the CNN poll, it was within that survey's sampling error.

This is all a function of the media and its failure to do its job.

They are a disgrace.

I wonder to Commies like CNN, what would Obama have to do to really piss them off..what would get them outraged..murder..that’s already been done..trampling on the Constitution, that’s already been done..spying on their phone calls, that’s already been done..Hey, if Obama killed one of their mamma’s would they be outraged then, or just find a way to blame a Republican for it
This poll, even though it came from the Commie News Network, probably does have some validity to it, look at the idiots who re-elected Obama, they are MORONS..as long as they get their welfare and food stamps they are happy..they could care less who Obama has killed or what he does at the IRS to target Conservatives, as long as they can get their free iPhones and Govt goodies they are super satisfied

Ok CNN, look at this way. The Democrat Party is for the little guy, remember? Yet the IRS, on behalf of the Democrat Party, CRUSHED the little guy in 2012. You like?

"as long as they get their welfare and food stamps they are happy.."

The taxpayers subsidized the Boston Bombers and the Cleveland kidnapper. Government subsidized murder and kidnap. What a country!

Absolutely, but that seems to be the presiding theme on CNN and among the liberals in the media. As opposed to focusing on the scandals, they deflect by focusing on the GOP’s reaction to them. Will the GOP overplay their hand? That’s the question they keep wondering, almost with faux concern for the GOP. They WANT the GOP to overplay their hand, and frankly, I don’t think the GOP can overplay their hand in this situation. That doesn’t mean they won’t make it look like the GOP has overplayed their hand, though. When they do that, the sheep will lap it up, and the GOP can be made the bad guys for picking on poor Obama. Poor Obama, all this happened in spite of him. He’d only knew, why, he’d have tried to stop it.

You’re absolutely right that if this was Bush, the media would be looping these scandals 24/7. Bush’s approval rating would plunge, not go up. Do you think if this was Bush, the media would be asking if the Democrats are overplaying their hand? Hell no! Of course not! The media would never ask that because they wouldn’t want to do anything to deflect to the Democrats and make the Democrats look like the bad guys, and the media would be helping them play it!

A lot of people are very very emotionally invested in Obama. They treat attacks on him, even ones that they except as legitimate ones, as attacks on them.

Well they’re probably asking people who don’t have a clue what they’re talking about because they don’t keep up with the news.

Fox did a segment of “man on the street” interviews...only one, out of maybe 10 folks interviewed even knew what Benghazi was. Some Cal Berkeley students didn’t know who the Vice President was.

And I’m sick of the polls, they have absolutely nothing to do with anything. So what if 90 percent think he’s doing a good job, the Congress is the one with oversight to investigate what he is and isn’t doing, what he knew and didn’t know. If they do their job, who cares what the American people think or don’t think. Poll questions are manipulated to get the answers the pollster wants.

I’m encouraged to see some congresscritters and even some nedia “newsreaders” (they usually aren’t journalists) showing some outrage (I just saw Bob Schieffer clip and a couple of the press conferences where they’re hammering Carney.)

Bob Schieffer did a great job with that ... he’s on the verge of calling this mess ‘Watergate’... and he was holding the lowlife’s feet to the fire.... But on a major thread here many were ‘missing that point’ of Schieffer’s interview... almost like we had a troll-fest or something. Maybe it just takes people a white to understand...

Obama lies.

The Media lies.

But the polls about Obama paid for by the media tell the truth?

I wish one of the questions was: “What are your main sources of news”?

A better question would be “Has CNN under reacted? “

That's the difference.
“Watergate” was in-your-face every evening, leading off the news.

This shows you how CNN works for Obama. The respondents were clearly “what's in this for me?” skunks who don't give a damn about America as long as the free Weffaire cheese keep comin’.

Yeah, I’d like to see a poll done with questions asked, and then at the end, ask people where they obtain their news, what news station, Twitter, Facebook, etc.
