A tax bill that would raise revenue $2.1 billion by boosting taxes on high-wage earners, smokers and corporations is headed for debate by the Senate.

The bill, which also helps support a development plan pushed by the Mayo Clinic in Rochester officials say could bring thousands of jobs to Minnesota, is expected to be on the agenda once state Senators return to chambers at 11 a.m.

The bill passed the state House by a 69-65 vote early Monday morning, May 20.

It is one of the last major tax and spending bills the Legislature is taking up as it finalizes a $38 billion budget for 2014-15 before the midnight end of session.

So, in Minnesota, the Democrat-controlled legislature and governor increased the tax on a pack of cigarettes by $1.60 to pay for the new Minnesota Vikings stadium, increased taxes on those evil rich folks, voted to force daycare operators to join the union (a little vote-payback, eh?), and increase a barrage of other taxes to the tune of a total of over $2 billion. Their goal: eliminate the state debt and spur on business. Good luck morons! You poor taxpayers of Minnesota. When will you learn at the polls?

Except these taxes won’t raise anywhere near that amount. People don’t just stand still to be fleeced. These taxes may bring in a fair amount the first year, but people will find ways to avoid paying in the future.

Look for the state to “need” even more money after these morons raise taxes.

so all the smoking tax increase ‘investment’ is going to pay for health care for inidigent smokers, right?

not a New Jersey billionaire’s shrine, right?

So if Erin Murphy is correct and smoking taxes reduce smoking, what do higher income taxes do?

If smoking is so bad, why not ban it? is it prohibited in the penumbra? isn’t the state profiteering from it unethical?

The elites will never tire of figuring out how to steal more of your money and funnel it back into their own and their buddy’s pockets with deceptive money laundering schemes.

“officials say could bring thousands of jobs to Minnesota,”

WHAT jobs? Why would a sane businessman want to open a business in MN? So he can be fleeced and taxed to death?

Um, yeah that will work.

This is what happens when you let commies and socialists run your state. Get rid of Secy of State Ritchie, an old red, the governor and half of the legislature and you might have a chance NOT to become Illinois or Californication.

Otherwise, head to the warm spots.

Just liberal psychopaths being liberal psychopaths. They never understand how economies work and electing them to rule doesn't change that fact. How can a state prosper with people who don't understand what they are supposed to be doing and worse yet, think they do understand?
