Texas curriculum dropped after complaints from lawmakers

The state's regional Education Service Centers no will longer issue lesson plans - and will forbid their use after Aug. 31 - for a popular online curriculum system that became a lightning rod for conservatives who criticized it as anti-American, legislators announced Monday. The move is expected to leave school districts across the state, including some in the greater Houston area, scrambling to replace CSCOPE, as the program is called, before the start of next school year.

Right. And in digging on the web for examples, the Huffpost cited an investigation AFTER the curriculum had been changed.

Among the controversies had been teaching the Boston Tea Party as an example of terrorism (not non-violent protest) and reportedly coursework on Islamic law that had some(?) students being made to wear burqas in class.

Of course the educrats say that there is nothing to see here (sorry we got caught). None of the concerns were addressed explicitly in the news item(s), just notice that the lesson plans had been altered in light of criticisms.

Or would that be too tough for these ignoramus teachers?

Apparently, it would. They were quoted on the radio this AM in Austin as bleating "How are we supposed to get lesson plans?" It seems to me that this is an admission that they are incompetent, not that I'm surprised given the results of their labors, lo, these many years.

From the article:

"...lawmakers said they got complaints from parents about CSCOPE, including a lesson on the Boston Tea Party that invited students to include the perspective of Britons who might have considered it an 'act of terrorism,' and other allegations that CSCOPE promotes Islam over Christianity."

The feds have NO business in education! Unfortunately, too many Americans are clueless about what they are trading for their free lunches and head start programs.

They were quoted on the radio this AM in Austin as bleating "How are we supposed to get lesson plans?"

What do they mean by that? I make my own lesson plans . . . most textbooks will tell you the lesson plan and objectives in the opening page of each chapter . . . can't they read?

No bias here. The curriculum is “popular” with everything but evil fundie thugs, according to the article.

“Parents are in charge of educating their children. “

I couldn’t agree more. Parents are the front line of education and increasingly have to counter the pablum and propaganda fed to their children - just like the mother you talked about.

I was observing my son’s classroom several years back and some counselor was talking to the class telling the students that everyone deserves respect and other kumbaya stuff.

I surprised myself by standing up and telling the class that everyone deserves politeness, but respect has to be earned.

Ooh. Good one.

Did you get a call from the IRS, OSHA?

My ninth grade students are starved for honesty AND truth. They know it when they see it. Hypocritical people cannot deal with the classroom.

Are you telling me that teachers can’t teach without buying some online curriculum?

That's right. And parents should not be allowed to homeschool because parents are not educational professionals. Any questions?
