Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel is exempting around 500 civilian sexual assault prevention personnel from this years mandatory furloughs, a senior defense official told POLITICO, in a bid to show the Pentagon is serious about cracking down on sexual assault in the ranks.
Hagel is expected to make the announcement on Wednesday.
His move comes after a rash of arrests and investigations into service members accused of sexual misconduct and a summit of top military leaders at the White House last week, when President Barack Obama called the problem dangerous to our national security.
Hagel has ordered most of the departments 800,000 civilian workers to take 11 days off this summer to help offset budget cuts under sequestration. But eager to demonstrate his resolve to tackle the assaults problem, Hagel is set to tell his top sexual assault prevention workers that theyll continue working full time.
Hagel is now holding weekly meetings at the Pentagon on sexual assault prevention, and he was scheduled to meet with Obama on Tuesday. Earlier, he met first thing Monday morning with top advisers on the topic, aides said. He also ordered a climate inspection of military installations for any inappropriate or offensive material and the retraining and rescreening of all sexual assault prevention workers.

- DoD nurses, teachers for children of deployed military who are fighting in Afghanistan, aircraft maintainers, engineers, logisticians, cops, and firefighters are being furloughed and will lose 20% of their pay.........
........but Politically Correct instructors who herd a captive audience into an auditorium to "role play" and preach to our men and women in uniform that all men are potential rapists will not lost a day's pay.
Did I get that right?
I would be interested to konw how broadly these military reports define “sexual assault” and “sexual misconduct”. Can words alone fit the definition?
Possibly, given the overreach of Dear Leader.
What a theatrical move...
These people are disgusting to no end.
Now even out military is being destroyed by these traitors.
How’s that “women in the military” social experiment working out, Lefties? Now the DOD has 500 sexual assault officers who are so crucial to the military that they can’t be furloughed....and one wonders how many of them are sexual abusers themselves after recent sordid revelations.
I have a better idea. Require all service members to be armed at all times, at least with a knife and preferably with firearms. My guess is that rapists (whether gay or straight) will disappear rapidly, one way or the other.
I thought the sequester cuts were set in stone. I’ve been lied to.
I thought sexual assaults in the military were at an all time high? If so, these "prevention workers" need to be fired.
I suspect 'liberals' in the military are changing the meanings of terms...
This will come back to haunt them because so many of the assaults are same-sex.
As you know the GOP went aand stuck with the Sequester deal because they themselves didnt want to pass specific defense budget cuts as an alternative to these across the board type cuts that let the agencies themselves choose.
Gee I sure hope all potential enemy countries have educated their soldiers not to sexually harass our female and transgender warfighters on the battlefield or if they should become POWs.
And, rather than deal with exploding entitlements, taxes, and out of control giveaway programs, the DC crowd is trying to stop the arterial bleeding with a surgery by 1,000 BandAids.
Bad news for hard working, DoD patriots and their families.
You know what? If you are a victim of sexual assault, you are not exempted. But those giving the "training" are exempt.
Best line of the day.
Stop speaking the truth, will you?!
Victims of sex assaults in military are mostly men - Women are more likely to speak up
In fact what will happen is just like every other failed Lib program - the Libs will say there aren’t enough “prevention” workers, or they’re not being paid enough.
Tailhook and witch-hunt come to mind.
