Meet Boeing’s Phantom Badger light tactical vehicle
Fox News ^ | 05/22/2013 | By Antti Kautonen

The Phantom Badger isn't a children's cartoon superhero, or something that creeps up to your house at night and messes up your garbage. No, it's the latest ground tactical vehicle from Boeing, and it looks downright awesome, in a butch golf cart sort of way.

The V22 Internally Transportable Vehicle, as the official nomenclature goes, has been developed with the help of MSI Defense Solutions, reportedly employing NASCAR racing technologies with the vehicle. It's Boeing's proposal for a vehicle able to be internally transported inside a V-22 Osprey tilt rotor, but is more capable and more sturdily built than an ATV.

"That airplane is a friggin’ mechanical nightmare."

A friend of mine is a retired CH-47 Chinook pilot. He used to brag that the Chinook was, "the only military aircraft capable of an air to air collision with itself."

His boast was shattered once the Osprey went operational.

It would be less than 1/10th the price. No way the Pentagon would buy 'em again!

Back in the early 80s the Army realized that none of the incoming kids could drive a stick shift anymore, didn’t want to spend the time training them, and spec’d automatics in everything.

Deployed with the US Air Force in the 90s, we had some vehicles with manual transmissions. We just made the young ones drive them while we old farts laughed until they got decent at it!

Not sure I would completely go with an old Jeep, but it wouldn’t take much to upgrade it and still have a reasonable price and performance. Don’t get me started on the F-35 vs upgrades for F-16s/F-15s (my job prior to retiring).

Yeah you got gadget-happy desk jockeys writing all the specs.
And the prime contractors and sub contractors (I worked for one) are more than happy to throw more items on the bill.

We loved those mules the Army got from the Marines. Darn near climb a wall like the M37 3/4 ton trucks.

Are those things armored?

I saw an old video of German movies when they were moving into Russia. there were Russian shells hitting about once ever 5 to 10 seconds apparently aimed at the bridges, and Engineers.

He said they were completely safe from the Russian artillery in their tanks but the engineers (he called them sappers) had nothing but their helmets to protect them and they were there working on the bridge right in the middle of it.

I can only guess the shells were not very powerful as the tanks didn’t look too heavy.

Check at metal recyclers in your area. I bought brass in all calibers of interest for $3.00 per lb.

Where the motor/engine? Looks very handy and cost effective - which is a no no.

I had a 46 CJ2a, best 4WD I've ever owned. With a PTO wench on the front it could climb a wall.
