Not so fast. What if the Dems want a SP just to try to make it go away? Who appoints the SP? All they have to do is put a crony in place. We might be better off without one, at least for the time being.
A special prosecutor is just what they want. Who’s going to appoint him? Holder.
Also, this will then go out of the news cycle, drag on forever, they’ll marginalize and ridicule the prosecutor, and nothing will happen in the long run (remember poor Ken Starr).
Get some good information and get a regular prosecutor to file charges against them. It’s going to be hard unless they get rid of Holder, but he’s involved up to his eyebrows in this and he’s got to go.
Rep. Trey Gowdy should be appointed special prosecuter in this case and all the other scandals.
They need a specialized special prosecutor. They need somebody well versed in RICO, conspiracy and strong arming, and they need to not get sidetracked and focus in laser like on the IRS chain of command and knowledge.
Otherwise, it will just be a 3 year calamity.
Perhaps they can get a prosecutor that will work with the committee on containing the inevitable info war that they’ll start.

Lying to Congress is a Federal crime. Gov’t employees influencing elections is a violation of the Hatch Act, not to mention civil rights violations. Engaging in a conspiracy to commit those crimes, or to conceal them, is also illegal.

This scandal would disappear totally, as no one in Congress or the media would be able to dig further (”interfere in an ongoing investigation”). And then, sometime after the 2016 elections, the special prosecutor would quietly release his findings, which would be a total whitewash, and then it would be too late to ever do anything more about it. Bad idea.
