HUNTSVILLE, Alabama - Gov. Robert Bentley said today he has signed into law sweeping gun legislation.
Following a luncheon speech today, Bentley reiterated that he backs the Second Amendment that provides the right to bear arms but his enthusiasm for the bill seemed to be tempered.
"The gun bill, I believe it was OK," he said. "I went ahead and signed it. It was a bill that took a lot of work - the sheriffs and the district attorneys working together. Everybody signed off on it and I signed it."
Asked about his seemingly lukewarm thoughts on the bill, Bentley answered, "I think it has some really good parts in it. It clarifies some things that needed to be clarified - like whether or not you could have a pistol in your car. You could have a loaded gun or guns in your car - shotguns or rifles. But you couldn't have a pistol. People get killed with rifles just like they do with pistols.
"I believe in the Second Amendment. I am a strong supporter of our Constitution, a strong supporter of the Second Amendment. I believe this is a good bill."
Speaker of the House Mike Hubbard, R-Auburn, said the new law strengthens the Second Amendment rights of Alabamians.

Keep working AL. It’s not perfection, but it is moving in the right direction compared to a few other states (NY, CT, MD, CO, CA). The MSM doesn’t want to report it, but there are more pro gun laws being passed than people control laws.

The article is vague on the details of the bill. The only thing they tell is that employees can keep a gun inside their vehicles on company parking lots. I heard NC is considering that as well.
The prohibition on CC in establishments that serve alcohol needs to go as well.

There is a provision in the bill that certainly got my attention. It provides for the recognition of all states' concealed carry permits in Alabama. This after I laid out some heavy cash to get Utah's non-resident permit, so that I could use it when I go to Alabama (my home state's permits currently are not recognized in Alabama).
However, the legislated necessity of your having to jump thru hoops and make that heavy outlay precisely underlines my point.
There's no mention in the 2nd about fees or permits or any of the other gobbledygook beloved of the fascist wannabes.
Additionally, the entire Bill of Rights was meant to apply to all US citizens, all the time, and regardless their state of residence.
Should you need to pay an out-of-state fee to guarantee your 4A rights against unreasonable search when you travel to the Grand Canyon for vacation ?
Or perhaps a 'carry permit' for that sign your grandson spent his free time making for you to carry at that Tea Party rally in the next state over ?
Those examples are no more absurd than the pretzel 'logic' employed to nullify the 2nd to the greatest extent possible by those who, by their depredations and usurpations, should most fear its existence.
Perhaps it's simplistic, but I think the Founders meant to explicity codify God's intention that free men & women have the moral right to defend themselves and their families, 24/7, period.
Any attempts by the State(s) to deny that right to any non-incarcerated adult seems a prima facia defiance of the natural law of our Creator and the very letter of our Constitution.
