In the photo in post # 1, in addition to Obama's head size appearing much larger than the other three people, there in something strange about what appears to be Obama's left hand resting on the left shoulder of the blonde girl. The hand is too dark in comparison to his facial complexion, the fingers can't be distinguished, and his reach perhaps seems too long in proportion to his size.

All in all, quite suspicious of Photoshopping, especially in view of the fact that other photos of Obama in his younger years had similar anomalies, like the one of him and his maternal grandparents on the park bench in New York.

Is there anything about this man's background that doesn't have to be fudged in some way or another?

You wrote and asked me so I'll give you my opinion. In the prom picture both his hand and Megan's arm are darker because they are in shadow. I blew the picture up and it may be my imagination - but I can visualize his thumb and forfinger holding what 'could' be the stem of a goblet. If you look near the girl's hair it almost looks like the outline of glass up there, but I can't see the bottom of any stemware, but it may be at the bottom of his hand and hidden. I make no claims to being a Photoshop expert.

Obama's head always looks large in these older pictures but he wore a large 'afro' hairdo back then and wears his hair very close-clipped now days.

I don't find anything suspicious in the Prom pictures. I am more apt to think the picture of him with the 'ten fingered' Paki to be a photoshopped picture. But - everyone loves that picture and 'wants' to believe it is real. I can't confirm anything, I just know what I see.
