This is exactly why people who genuinely need help avoid seeking it or making themselves known. This includes military personnel and civilians I’ve encountered.

My advice – especially if you value your job or your professional esteem –is: Don’t see a therapist; don’t mention your psychology to your doctor…one innocent comment is all it takes before a medical professional takes it upon himself to recommend a specialist or treatment for a problem fabricated by pseudo-academics and lucky-dipped straight from the DSM.

If you are tolerant of the prospect of our country assimilating and propagating totalitarian values, then let your doctor direct and control your approach to your own health. You are at liberty to give away your power - but don’t be surprised when you find yourself devoid of liberties.

These people seem to be suffering from “mentalis hyperdiagnosis”, a newly discovered (really, I just invernted it this very moment) mental disorder in which government-funded, nanny-state “researchers” identify any/all signs of freedom, self-reliance or independent thought in their "subjects" as some kind of “mental disorder”...

FYI, stocking up on wood or canned goods is not the definition of hoarding re mental health. Hoarding is being unable to throw out garbage and useless items like a take out menu from a restaurant that has closed and broken hair curlers. It is a disorder and it can affect physical health when the piles of junk with dust and insects and dead rodent infestation soaked in dog urine get too big.

I recommend people staying away from the shtf site -- sensational garbage like a worse version of National Enquirer.

Unless you encounter a psychiatrist version of Lois Lerner -- and there surely are a few -- ordinary mental health professionals are not going to be using the new DSM guidelines against patients, conservative or otherwise. The bad apples would have done it even with the old guidelines.

Most psychs don’t take the thorough approach that you do and this is exactly why people who genuinely need help avoid seeking it or making themselves known.

This is why people are so worried -and they’ve a right to be.

For example, for those with ptsd, accepting a diagnosis is much more than facing yourself. It is essentially the prospect of giving away your capacity as a citizen; in court and in society. For many, this is loosing the freedom you fought for.

If you think you might be a danger to others, it is your responsibility to hand yourself to professional care; but what you do with yourself is your own business.

I assume that if you want a gun, you'll be deemed medically unfit. I'd like to see the person they deem to be a model of good mental health, but not for very long

Thanks, Steve. My mother was afflicted with this in the last years of her life - there was no remedy. I used the time that she was in the hospital to clear out the rubbish. I used 40 huge black garbage bags just on the bedroom.

There is a danger, when our medical records are available to federal healthcare officials, for some committee of theirs to look at medicines being taken, and put that person in a “can't have a gun” category. They do it to veterans now.

If they do that to vets now, we'll be next for sure. That's unconscionable to not allow those that have served their country (not to mention those the best trained to handle firearms) access to self-protection.

Sure, guns are planned to be on the list, but the ultimate goal is Christianity. Islam will be OK/exempt, but outlawing Christianity is what they really want.
