America loves its outlaws, and few are as admired and lionized as Willie Nelson.
As the enduring American icon recently turned 80, he's been honored with lifetime achievement awards, serenaded at special performances and saluted by musicians from every genre of music. And Nelson has taken it all in with a bemused smile.
"It's a nice thing to do for someone on their birthday, and I appreciate it," Nelson said in a recent interview aboard his bus. "Usually I like to forget my birthdays as much as possible."

Dave Mustaine is a flawed but genuine Christian. If you want to hear some great Conservative Metal listen to United Obamanation, an anti UN CD by Megadeth.
So true, excellent!
Smoking dope at 20 is foolish....smoking it at 80 is strongly suggestive of a badly malformed character.
you are probably of of those classical music snobs. If so, you don’t get that country music sprang from ancient songs brought over to the US by the Scots.......it is very pure music
Willie is addicted to pot, his brain is fried, but he puts on a good show
< The outlaw is a big thing in country and western music. >
Waylon was the first Outlaw, although it was not by design. When the reporter called him an “outlaw” in an article (Rolling Stone?), he was smart enough to ride with it. And the NY feds gave him free publicity with that cocaine-that-wasnt-there drug bust in his Nashville studio, so he and Willie would have been crazy to fight it! This whole Outlaw thing is one of the most interesting pieces of Americana history that I’ve ever read.
You’re absolutely correct. People should take a listen to Willie’s album Yesterday’s Wine to understand this concept. While I mainly listen to and play extreme metal, That album is one of the best albums I have ever listened to, and touches me deeply when it comes up on my iPod.
Crazy ~~ Patsy Cline
However, I don't like this next Willie Nelson song. I think he should always follow this next one with his "Crazy" song, cause I think he wrote this "cowboy" song after he smoked some Texas locoweed: Cowboys Are Frequently Secretly Fond Of Each Other ~~ Willie Nelson
No.
I figure his brain was fried so long ago, that he just can’t help it—LOL!
He has a very unique voice and presentation. I like him for his music-
Lyrics to the most brilliant song in the whole wide world. (Long live Waylon. :-)
I’m for law and order, the way that it should be.
This song’s about the night they spent protecting you from me.
Someone called us outlaws in some ol’ magazine
New York sent a posse down like I ain’t never seen.
CHORUS:
Don’t you think this outlaw bit has done got out of hand?
What started out to be a joke, the law don’t understand.
Was it singing through my nose that got me busted by the man?
Maybe this here outlaw bit has done got out of hand.
We were wrapped up in our music, that’s why we never saw,
The cars pull up, the boys get out and the room fill up with law.
They came bounding through the back door in the middle of the song.
They got me for possession of something that was gone, long gone.
CHORUS
> you are probably of of those classical music snobs.
Oh, please. It was just a bloody joke. Where’s your sense of humor.
I love C & W, and my house is filled with bluegrass music, which is a lot closer to its Scottish roots.
Sometimes music is just music.
bluegrass country r&b like apples oranges and strawberries
well your joke went right over my beady little bird brain, so solly
****** “The first time I saw him, I was surprised at how little he is-” *******
Have Chris Kristopherson stand next to him ... Willie looks bigger.
When Waylon Jennings or Johnny Cash stood next to them they looked like Giants (Still the best Concert I have ever attended, those 4 were MAGIC together)
TT
With Willy’s popularity, any new song he may write will be a hit...Willy could have written and sang far more songs than he has and it seems like we’ve been cheated out of what could have been...
It also seems Willy is content to make some money but not all of it, while driving around the country partying...Nothing wrong with that I s’pose...
Guess he’s got a place on Maui...Since he’s never there, he’d probably never notice if I bunked in once in a while...
