Cuccinelli II try to soften their public images early in the high-stakes gubernatorial contest.

This is an election of north Virginia, versus south Virginia. McAuliffe will take seventy percent of the vote around Fairfax, Arlington and Alexandra. The rest of the state will be significantly less.
You have it exactly correct.
In the 35 years I’ve lived in Fairfax County, it’s gone from reliably Republican (7 out of the 9 county commissioners) to solid Democrat - with only 2 or 3 members of the county commission being Republicans.
That's not so long ago BTW ~
Well, it doesn’t help that FC has got lots of illegals these days...
